Hi, I am just back from a trip to norway to pick up another Pre-series VW 411.
The car has the lowest VIN I know.

It was produced at September/23/1968.

Are there any other cars with a 4-digit VIN outside?

greetings Lutz

Lovely car! How many are you planning to buy  ? This is an L-model isn't it?
You should find a 1968 2-door model too!

Thanks, this Car and my swedish Car where made in the Same Week in 1968. There are only 177 VIN between both Cars. If I can find a two-door from the same Week, maybe I want do it again. ;-)

which one I'll take?

They say 1969 on them, but you have them listed in your Signature as 1968?

kgarchivinusa Sat Sep 20, 2014 8:45 am

Yes Mike, both cars are built in September 1968. But Volkswagen changed the Modelyear in July/August. So built in 68 and modelyear 69.

Hello people!

I was looking for another hobby car whole summer and this was something I noticed for sale in late May (among many others, like a -63 sunroof Beetle in Sweden, -87 Daimler Double Six in Northern Finland or -72 Jeans Beetle nearby).

It was a bit too expensive at that time and I had some better choices but as those failed for one reason or another (too far away, not interesting enough, too expensive) this was starting to look good and by November, the price had dropped to 2/3 of the original, so I went to see it (~250 miles away) and made a deal.

It has an interesting history, it's an old police car from Sweden and 1,7 liter automatic with carburators: a model that shouldn't exist at all.

Late models should have 1,8l (with twin carburators) engine and late 1,7l engines had FI: This might have a 411 engine or some of the vehicle information is plain wrong, not rare at all with old (and rare) cars like this. I'll dig into this at spring.

Standard Finnish late autumn weather in the pic, +-0C and rainy. ;)

Which is the reason the car is stored by the seller until May. Street legal and inspected so I could have driven it home but I didn't have time to arrange winter storage near home so better this way for me.

Also, I'm new to type 4, there's a lot to learn as these don't have much common in any older models.

Spare parts are also a problem, I fortunately got whole package: A carload of spare parts with the car, taken from a disassembled spare parts car.

Some more pics if anyone is interested:

BTW: In real life the colour looks a lot like Sumatra Green, same as in busses (I had a -74 bus with it, but sold it years ago so I can't say), what do you people think?

I forgot to check the colour code sticker and the car is far away now.
