Is it OK for my handbrake cables to be this far different in adjustment? Even at these adjustments, my passenger side does not lock up nearly as good as my driver side.

RH side cable probably is fraying apart, which causes it to stretch. Order up a new one. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

You say they are new cables but there are at least 3 different lengths of cable. Maybe your RHS one is the wrong length. _________________ Currently filling the garage

Did you match up your new cables to each other? And to the existing cable?
If a match, then what I typically tell Mrs. Cusser when she has problems: operator error ! I'd check the RH cable for missing a pivot or similar. I'm confident your sides of rear brake shoe adjustment could be that far off, and same with crazy one-sided brake or drum wear. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. I had a problem like that once. It turned out my cable was outside the cable guide that is just below the handle. |

Then remove the cables and double check that they are same length.
Should also be washers between the nuts and hand brake. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
