What would the max hp be of a 1641cc with dual kadrons, Single quiet pack, and some other minor stuff.
I would think 70- 75 hp? 0-60 in 11 sec?

I don't know why not?? The 1963 1500S twin carb T-34 would do 0-50 in 12 seconds.

Sounds about right. In my Squareback I have a 1641 w/ dual webers, engle 110 cam, German 009 dizzy, and EMPI exhaust and it will do 0-60 in 11 seconds.

The first question is WHY?
A 1641 isnt going to be any quicker than a 1600 w/dual carbs.
41ccc?
Nope If you took a fresh 1600 with a good cam, decent head work, clutch/presure plate combo and a good exhaust.
You could easily hang or beat a 1641.
Also note that you cant get k-dogs to fit under you deck lid in a type3, with out hacking up your trunk. [bad idea]
You are better off with dells or webers that use the short t3 manifolds.

If you have a limited budget [like most of us] then watch out how you
are going to spend it.
I am not saying that a 1641 isnt going to work , because it will....just dont expect screaming performance from it .

What about a 1776cc about 80-85hp?
I just want something that has some power to Regular drive and sometimes take off at a light and not look like I am just keeping up with traffic!

TheDDB Wed Dec 08, 2004 10:54 am

Im not sure what it is your after ...
A well built 1600 will completely keep up with traffic.
If that is all you are looking to do then build a good solid 1600.

If speed /Power is your thing....then a 1776 is better....but be warned big motors can cost quite a bit more once you start building them.

Technically, the difference is 57cc...a "1600" is actually 1584cc.

Blah,blah,blah.....
you get my drift....57 cc.....

Yeah but a 1600cc doesnt have mutch of a Modification range like Heads and Other things. I would rather Get a 1641 then rather get a "well built"
1600 its 57cc's more! That 57cc's have to do something. Anything is better when its bigger. More speed, acceleration, and Tourqe.
70 hp is more than 65. I could even get mabie 80 hp out of the engine.
Using Kadrons, and Well tuned heads.

I wouldn't push a stock engine over 4500 rpm.

Do what you want - between DDB and Mr. Bubblehead you have quite a bit of experience as far as what works and what doesn't.

There isn't much point in asking for opinions on what works and then flouting the solicited opinion and going on with your current course.

panelvanbeethoven Mon Dec 13, 2004 11:05 am

I have the solution to your problems!!
what you do is go out and get a mid-seventies american boat with a big fat ugly wter cooled V8. every time you feel like your just barely "keeping up with traffic" in your VW, start up that big pig and do a massive burnout in your driveway!!! after that you should be good for another week or so.

It always makes me laugh when people build performance VW engines. :?:

I just don't think that's what Hitler had in mind, lol.

Why? Please share your vast wisdom with the rest of the group, newbie.

BTW, Hitler didn't design the VW.
