Guys in a lot of rice burner car street racers drive around with constant backfires.

There are several types of backfires, right now I have a small BF on slow down. Had it on acceleration. But this is not about me.

The street racer Honda's as a example back fire continually , loud.

At the first sign of a back fire we go on the hunt for the cause. Back fires can cause damage to the engine.

Do they do it on purpose to get attention, and it is a modification?

Or the have no clue of the danger.

They're purposefully altering the tune of their cars to make them backfire. Supposedly the reasoning is to mimic the sound of various rally/race cars.

And the reason rally/race cars do it is to keep the turbo spooled up during braking to get rid of lag at the cost of increased heat and reduced turbo lifespan.

Was at a drive thru a few weeks back and for a moment thought we got caught up in a drive by shooting, we both ducked down in the car with fright only to realise it was a muppet in a pimped out red vauxhall corsa (Google it) with what's known as a shotgun tune on his pos corsa making the noise.

Pretty sure the cops will confiscate the car from him once they catch him.

For a street car, it's just idiotic. Some would use another word, but I won't... because I am

You get dudes sitting in gas stations here just hitting their two step or launch control or whatever its called repeatedly.

It’s really just the Decline of Civilization.

My 1974 Chenowth has a burble/pop tune when I have the 1835cc Megasquirt EFI engine in it.

In the super high vacuum areas of the ignition and fuel maps, I pull the ignition timing back to 0 degrees, and tune the AFR to target 18-19 or so. (It's only tuned like this in the map regions that are never even touched when the engine is under any sort of load.) When you lift and between gears it does a nice little Pbrbrbprbrbrbpaprpprpra like an old Ferrari. People are confused. Chaos ensues. I have 62 horsepower. Society spirals into disorder- just as the Prophet jbbugs has foretold.

I also have launch control with a button on the shifter and it is profoundly annoying. SHPPHABAPPOITPOPOPOPOPOPPOPOPOPOPOPOP..... SKKRRRRTTT!

Backfires? You should say something about the wings they put on them ricers.

YOu see the occupants be dancing in their seats. YOu cannot mistake them - have saggin' pants and dingle-berries pierced into their faces.

Yup. The neighbor kid is a Harley guy. One of his buddies rides a Sportster that has a nasty backfire. I think, he thinks it's cool. I also think he put on loud pipes and a shitty filter & now it runs really lean, but, what do I know?

My son is fascinated with that nonsense. I handed down my GTI 337 to him and he keeps asking how to make the exhaust louder (already has a larger $800 exhaust system but it's "too quiet") and how to get the pops/bangs tune (car already has a stage 1 tune too). Neither of which he will be allowed to do. I don't get it, and why they want to damage their cars intentionally.

94touring Thu Jul 27, 2023 7:25 am

My 94 rx7 has the occasional backfire, but not intentionally on my end. Factory emissions all gone for performance and occasionally gets a little blip of additionally fuel depending from the throttle dampener response time from 0 throttle back to part throttle. Welded up an additional resonator for noise control, but it's still relatively loud. At night it will shoot a flame occasionally I'm told...it's a race setup rotary engine so is what it is. Looks completely factory from the outside, aside from some performance rims and a lowered stance.

They dump in fuel under decel makes a lot of noise. You can measure the resistance of the coolant temp sender when cold and wire in a matching resistor from (radio shack) to make the computer think its still warming up so it adds fuel. Sometimes it can be done with the intake air sensor that one also affects timing . Its horrible for the car and makes the rear bumper all black from over fueling. Wont make any power but its cool man 8)

I did the Auto Tec in Westminster at Golden West College major Asian gang banger area all the small time drug dealers did this once they got some $ they bought EVOS and got them tuned correctly.

VW related please lol

Welcome to 2023. Straight piped civics have been replaced by straight piped 350/370Z's and literally anything with a V8. I don't think it's legal own a V6 Nissan or any V8 without straight piping and getting a "pop tune" for it anymore.

Bonesberg55 Thu Jul 27, 2023 8:57 am

Why do they want a car that sounds like it has an uncontrollable farting problem? Its not cool! I guess it fits with the image of looking like a piece of sheeeeeeet!

FarmerBill Thu Jul 27, 2023 9:38 am

There used to be a guy around town that had an old truck that would backfire like a cannon every so often going down the road. No special tune, just an old worn-out motor. I was told he had replaced the exhaust with sched-80 pipe after the original blew up. You could hear him coming miles away, normal old truck exhaust noise then BANG!, now that was cool. 8)

Maybe you should do some basic research.
