View original topic: Fuel line designation SAE J 30 R6/R7 what is this used for?

I have fuel line from the syncro tank rebuild kit. It is labeled SAE J 30 R6/R7.

I am not familiar with this designation. Is it appropriate for the fuel pressures we have?

It seems to be only rated to 50 psi and that seems low to me.

It seems to me that this would be OK for the return but not to be used between the fuel pump and the engine.

l wouldn't use it, it'd be OK for breather and to the pump.
l wouldn't use it anywhere else.

l use j 30 R14 for fuel line replacements.

30R14 for low pressure hoses and hose with both a 30r9 and 30r14 designation for the high pressure hoses in the FI system.

There were too many failures with 30r6,7 hoses a decade ago, with the hoses turning to absolute mush in years, months, week, or even just days when in contact with alcohol laced fuels. I understand this has been corrected, but I still don't think 30r6,7 hose is in the same league as 30r14.

The current rating for that hose says it is good up to E85. But I will not use it for the FI pressured side. Just for the return.

I am well aware of what they claim, but would recommend 30r14 (50 psi rated) for the low pressure usages anyway.

OK. I am going with the Gates 27340 Barricade 5/16 fuel injection hose.

The lower pressure rated Gates Barricade would be fine for the return line as well, but if you are buying a 25' roll of Gates 27340 that should cover everything and be maintenance free for a decade plus.

Belay the above.

I am going with this for the return and pressure fuel lines.

Sounds like the exact same hose as the Gates Gates 27340.

if you buy a 25' reel of Barricade, it will have a sticker on the reel from Gates. i ordered a reel of Gates hose from Amazon and it came on a generic reel and the hose itself was not marked Gates, it went back. frickin' Amazon or the resellers they let pirate.

ended up getting a reel thru NAPA. paid more, it was the genuine stuff.

I see the 27340 as 50 psi vs this at 225 psi?
