I grew up beating 5.0 mustangs, corvettes, camaro SS.
The technology is ridiculous now, how do we beat these outlaw cars?
Twin engine VW cars? How would you link them? With a differential to compensate the minor differences.
I’m pretty positive I could squeeze twin Vw engines in the rear of my tube chassis notch. If I could engineer this setup, do you think a turbo twin Vw engine tube chassis car could potentially be competitive against these high boost V8 cars.
I’ve lost interest in VW’s since stock cars started coming with 800hp.
Just an idea after a few drinks.
I’d love to run a VW heads up against these guys, is it plausible?

A Porsche 917 engine put out almost 1600hp at only 5.4 liters but good luck finding one of them…
I just want a VW out representing |

there are a few beetles running in the 7s with a four cylinder air cooled engine
LOTS of boost and VERY high quality components. and LOTS of chassis tuning.
a beetle in the 7s or 8s or even 9's would be very competitive against all these turbo LS cars everyone has now. |

I’ve got a flanged crank, pauter rods, super flow heads done up by my friend Darren, former owner of Drd racing heads, weisco pistons and a full Ron Lummus chassis notchback set up now for methanol and EFI.
I could easily turbo the car but it just seems like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
The shit these days is ridiculous fast…
I want to go seriously whoop up on these cars. |

You'll need $19,000,000 and a seller. |

Yep, but I’m a machinist and own a machine shop. I could potentially make anything imaginable.
Two VW engines just seemed like the easiest plan.
It all boils down to time and money |

As a certified tig welder and a machinist with a full machine shop at my disposal, I could potentially build an 8 or 10 cylinder VW engine. Finding someone to make the cam and crankshaft I believe would be my biggest challenge.
Allan Millyard actually hacksaws the crankcase’s apart to build his bikes.

At that point I may as well put an LS or a 2jz in it |

Build it as 2 seperate engines and use a propeller (airboat/ aircraft etc) flanged crank to drive the rear engine through a rubber tail shaft drive coupling .
If you went type 4 , the exhaust ports are underneath . |

In the 80's and 90's the V8 crowd was all normally aspirated. Then they discovered turbos and tuning.
A turbo VW on the street can still spank a lot of cars but up against factory blower cars and turbo LS's you have little chance. |

This is why I lost interest…
I miss beating everybody with my 7.10 1/8th mile car from high school
I have a Teague blown 572 in my shop, I guess I’ll have to build a chassis and a fiberglass anglia body for it. |

I like go-fast VW's for the novelty. In the future I may go to a V8 build. As a pretty good fabricator it would be easy to build a turbo LS. Then again I've always loved slingshot FED (Front Engine Dragsters) and would love to play around with one of those.
Just remember, the VW drag racing scene lead the way in import performance and turbocharging. Our base engine is from the era of the Ford flathead V8. How many folks are running EFI, turbo flatheads these days? |

| Why not put an engine in each end of the car? Lots of front wheel drive transaxles to choose from. Audi 4000/5000 and Porsche 924/944/968 right up to some of the Audis today. Adapt an air cooled engine to them if you like. With today's throttle by wire set ups, that part should be easy enough. You might want to go automatic transmission on at least one of the two though. |
