I’m mainly looking for examples of trigger wheels that came off of production cars but customs ones are ok too. And yes, i know there is quite a bit of info but most of them seem to be bought kits from places like CB, etc.

Ya, it's store bought from CB. But for the amount of fking around chasing and modifying parts....my time is worth more than the kit is worth. I installed everything in 20 minutes if the engine would have been running at the time I could have had it fired up in under an hour if all I was installing was the crank trigger ignition.

Dub shop trigger wheel on the back of a BMD serpentine pulley. Drilled and tapped wheel onto pulley myself, home made brakcket, crank sensor and harness is from a junk 2005 Ford Focus |

This was before I had a DRO; I used a rotary table on my mill to drill the pulley and trigger wheel. Once the two were mated, I then cleaned it up on the lathe.
With the DRO, the only thing I'd do differently is just indicate the pulley (and, separately, the trigger wheel), punch in the PCD and # holes into the DRO and drill away. (and clean it up on the lathe, once the two are mated together) |

Here’s a wheel off a 4.6 Ford I think. I was going to use it to replace the generic one I had but never got around to it. The one I did use I just scribed a x pattern, measured as best I could, then drilled. Then mounted an indicator and tapped it around until it was centered, before tightening down. Then fabbed up a mount for the sensor. Sorry no pic.’s of finished assembly. Kinda hillbilly but it ran great.

I had plans to use a bicycle sprocket with the right number of teeth, drill and mount it on my type 4 engine, make a bracket to mount the sensor... then I priced the parts from the Dub Shop... bolt on and at a price that just erased the home grown idea out of my mind. All the hard work done and proven, works flawlessly!

The Dub Shop is definitely the place to go for all things crank trigger. Mario machined the back of my CB dry sump pulley and installed a "hidden" trigger wheel for me. Easy install, zero problems.

One one I used the 4.6 wheel and on the other I used the cheap stamped ford wheel

Here is mine. Trigger wheel from a Ford Escort, combined with EDIS4 and Megajolt. Ugly install, but I will replace it with a set from Mario @thebubshop. On the type4 I have another set from Mario, great design, nicely hidden.

I think this is about the best solution I've found from VW Speedshop in the UK.

The pulley can be changed from std vee, to power pulley or serpentine belt pulley leaving the trigger wheel and hub untouched.

HA, its not that your install wasn’t clean, its that your poor little vdub is dirty as hell! :D |

:D Guilty as charged. That will change in the next iteration, because the Bug is now under re-construction. I say ugly install because I complicated things too much: initially I had TPS (although the bracket was not too nice, at least not visible), then I changed to MAP and this involved adding pipes from each manifold to the vacuum chamber on top of the shroud, then going to the MJ. I first tried urethane pipes but they were not good for heat and vacuum, so I changed to copper pipes as a quick and dirty fix.
But as I am building my type4 with MS2 Extra, I can transplant everything to this 1.6 engine if needed, and I will keep it nice and clean. I also tidied the wiring. |

I’m reviving my thread instead of making a new one to help keep things neat here. So, I’m looking into the ford 4.6 trigger wheels and cant find any for sale that look like the ones mentioned previously here. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

I got mine off ebay.....was advertised as for an escort.
I made the custom pulley and hub.
