bondo in italian language is "stucco". bondo it's commonly used as a surname for the filler that is used to level the body damage before painting.
the skill of the panel beaters in the bodyshop is reversely proportinal to the quantity of bondo that is used... also the quality of a car... |

bondo is a brand name for a really crappy body filler. if you absolutely have to use a little body filler, key word being little, bondo is the last one you should use. |

From my understanding, bondo is used to smooth out small imperfections on autobody that body tools (dolly, specialized hammers and such) cant get out ......unless of course your dealing with a shady autobody person which then it is used to replace body panels altogether. NOT GOOD! |

Bondo is the material which approx. 15% by weight of the average Bay Window Bus is constructed out of. |

Looking at the parts that broke off my 71 when the drunk t-boned it, obviously my bay wasn't average. 1/2" thick in places. No wonder it was quiet. Haven't found much at all on the 66. |

Bondo is used as slang for Plastic filler. Even the West Coast rep for Evercoat (who makes the best plastic fillers by the way) calls it bondo.
Almost all "Restored" cars have some plastic filler. It can be your best friend and also your worst enemy. If panel replacement isn't feasable, plastic filler will smooth out the work you did do and make it ready for paint. If you do a panel replacement, chances are you will still need plastic filler to make the panel look perfect.
Alot of people are afraid of plastic filler, but when used correctly, it is just fine. Just make sure you use a high quality plastic filler, such as Evercoat's Rage, Rage gold, or Rage extreme. If you something very strong, such as filling holes and such, Evercoat makes good plactic fillers with fiberglass or even metal strands in the filler, to make it extra strong. One type, I forget the name but it is pink and comes in a tube, has 2500lbs of lateral strenghth. you can literally "bondo" a nail to a dent, and use this to pull dents out if you dont have a stud welder. I have done it a couple times now, and then sanded it off, being very carefull not to go through the OG paint.
sorry, kinda went off on the "bondo" tangent........ |

Bondo is God
all bow down and worship
to fix rocker rot, bend chicken wire into desired shape, apply Bondo and smooth. Apply rattle can spray paint... voila! Ghetto rocker repair.
(just kidding... but bondo is useful in certain circumstances, but not more than 1/8 " thick, for smoothing out body work) I use spot putty on rust pitting on windsheild ledges... it's gotta be smooth for the seals to seal |

below is the advice i got from chillkoot a while back:

how sacreligious is bondo?
chillkoot replies:
Bonda is Crap... Plastic filler is good. There is a difference. Bonda is made of Talc powder. Talc absorbs moister, thats why BONDO chars will rust. No plastic filler, same stuff just made from a plastic powder, works wonders, And doesn't absorb water. Suggesstions, Evercoat products I think are the best, (filler=Z-grip, Glaze Putty for Minor imporfections and top coasting filler= Glazeing Putty, Both a Evercoat product available at any auto paint store.) |

Z-grip is an evercoat product that production shops use (Maaco, Earl Schieb, etc) Rage, Rage Gold, and Rage extreme are much better products, more additives for strength, easier to spread and sand etc etc. |

I thought this was like a "Jeopardy" question. Alex says, "90% of the Blessed Bus is covered with this material: "What is Bondo, Alex?" |
