An aircooled VW performance shop recommended i get an electronic ignition so they put one in for me, though I see zero difference from the perfectly great aircooled SVDA i had in there (except that now it has trouble idling when i start it and i have to sit there and give it gas/warm it up for a minute before I can drive it).
Does anyone recognize this electronic ignition/distributor and coil?What brand is it? I've never seen a coil that looked like this. I see no brand markings anywhere on it. 1600cc DP

But with a stock carb it wuill create the same issues as a 009 do.
Once again there is a shop that does not know whats going on and is more interested in sellingf parts than solve the problem. (Installing a 30/31 mm carb on a 1600 clearly proves that too) I suggest you go back to that shop and demand them to take it back and install something that is supposed to work with a stock carb.
The ยด71-72 model with DVDA is known to have issues. I would find a 211 905 205S, which should be easy to find in the US, refurbish it and install a set of electrical points in. Brand(?) what you want Computronix, Compufire, Ignitor. Get a good coil like the Pertronix 3 ohm or similar. A set oif low resistance ignition wires, perhaps new plugs, NGK BP6HS(assuming heads are stock) or simillar from Beru, Denso or Brisk. Set gap to 0,85 mm.
Set diustributor to 10/30/38 degrees.
Contact Tim at Volksbits and have him rebuild a 34 mm Pict3 carb for you that matches your engine.
Then you can make it run like it is supposed to, with the power it is supposed to have. (The 30/31 carb may be easier to make the engine run decent, but in reality it chokes the engine above approx 3500 rpm and therefore leaves good power on the ground)
If you WANT a new distributor I recommend the 123 USB or Bluetooth for such an application.
