Yeah, IDF's would be really nice Redline is the importer for them. Generally where 40 IDF Weber carbs are used 36 DRLA Dells will also work. The Dells are actually a nicer carb they have 5 progression holes. You may find some used online. If you need help I am not far away. Be happy to help you through a rebuild on some used ones. Lately, I have been playing with Zenith NDIX 32's which are best suited to small displacement engines like No Stroker No Bore or perhaps 88 bore 69 stroke, the problem with them is finding the manifolds. Maybe these: Rebuilt Zenith 32 NDIX & P Saunder & Sohn Price: $500 pair.

VIDEO with Zeniths. |

Last year I built a 1915 for a friend and needed a set of 44 IDFs. Weber Carbs Direct had a great price and was only a 30 minute drive to get. Iwas dealing with CB and asked why their IDFs were more money. I was told theirs are made in Spain and the ones from Weber Direct were Chinese. I called Weber Direct and they confirmed what CB said.
I bought them from CB and they worked perfectly out of the box. |

Go with one of these kits, if you're using a oem fan shroud.

| I am wondering if the DRLA 40's will clear? I don't have any Porsche Manifolds to try but have some DRLA 36's you could try if you have the Manifolds. Plenty of room in my Bus and in the Photo below. |

DRLA 40's and 36' measure the same. 4"(100mm) from the base to the top of the carb without the air cleaner bases installed.
I run 36's on my 67 with CB offset manifolds. They clear the (dog house) shroud and decklid nicely.
I like the DLRA's because you can get to the idle jets without having to remove the carbs. Like you do with Weber IDF carbs.
Hope this was helpful. |

Yeah, the DRLA does clear the DogHouse VW shroud unless it's got chokes. Was I wondering about the 356 SC Fan Shroud? Didn't know the Weber's Idle Jets were on the inside though! They should be reachable, IDF Photo below shows #4, that it on the outside right? But Just realized it's a SquareBack engine out of the car!

Sorry. I was not clear on the IDF idle jet location.
They are between the carb and the outside engine compartment. Not the carb and FS.
I have big hands and cannot get the IDF jets out without removing the carbs from the engine. A very time consuming job. Never mind!
How did this discussion progress to 356 FS? |

| Seems to be a 356 SC Engine but OP is asking here, perhaps to get more replies. |

sorry, I should have supplied more information, its a 356 engine. I have located a matching pair of 40 dlra dellortos that i'm going to rebuild, so that's were i'm at. I was unaware about the fitment issue?
thanks Jay D. |

I would think the 40mm DRLA's should be excellent carburetors for the 356A,B,C/912 motors. Porsche 1957 on, Normal engines had 32-24mm Zeniths and the Super had 32-25mm Zeniths. Not sure what venturi the Solex P40-11 for the 356B Super 90 used. I see ads for 32,34,36mm venturis on http://www.partsklassik.com/c-34-solex-p40ii.aspx I would not go over 32mm on the venturi though with Normal heads, in fact, 30mm would be suited and 28mm might tune better and have more bottom end.
On dirt, my 57A with Zenith 32-24's would peg the tac over 6000 RPM in 1st & 2nd real easy if I was not careful. |
