So got new axle boots from Wolfsburg. Came with style clamp I never seen before. Instructions show a plyer like tool. Anyone know what and where I can get? Thanks

On BMW's I use the 30500 and 30800 pliers.
Can you post pictures of the clamps on yours?

Me, I throw those away and reuse my old screw clamps.

You can find the tools on Amazon. Search for "pinch clamps" or "pinch clamp crimping tool."

You can use the end cutter pliers

Here are the official pliers for crimping those clamp rings. It squeezes the band together as it pushes the hat down. Perfect crimps every time.

There is no manufacturer on it. Pretty sure I bought it in 94 or 93 for the water cooled axles from Sp tools.

I have the exact same one - works great.
The end cutters can work on a pinch.

A pair of dikes (not those dikes, a pair of those wouldn’t have much need for you) work great

a pair of cinch clamp pliers for pex plumbing pipe should work...flnd them in home depot etc...i have the real pliers like jimbo and i use them on pex... but believe me, if these are for split boots on a swingaxle dont use them...even though they are the "correct " style clamp for a show winning restoration you'll probably never get them tight enough especially if you are trying to install them with the trans in the car....stick with screw clamps

Patent number was assigned to Lisle corporation, so looks like a Lisle #30800

I was wondering what company made the tool. When I did not see an Sp on the tool, it left a question mark on the tool. Really thought it was one of their tools. Thanks for looking it up. It would have driven me crazy when I got into bed tonight!

How could you not get the clamps tight enough with this tool? I have done thousands of boots with one & never had one not be tight. In fact, those little square holes in the handles are for a 3/8” breaker & torque wrench for those applications that have torque specs.

I just use a pair of end cutters. Nothing at all with those band clamps....I've had 5 different watercooled VWs over the years and have rebuilt and replaced a LOT of CV joints.

Those are the same ones from Matco, seems they just resell them.
Absolutely worth the cost.

tdctdi...its not the tools ability to crimp the clamp that could be an issue....its the car owners ability to get the clamp into the proper notch before crimping that could cause him a problem...and you dont get a second chance with these clamps....and again a pia on a swingaxle with the trans in the car..dont tighten it enough and it leaks or falls off...tighten it too much and it distorts and leaks...a screw clamp is a heck of a lot easier to deal with if you havent been doing this all your life
