There is a lot of postings and information on the Solex PDSIT 32-34 carbs and their different characteristics (jets, screws, etc...). I would like to start a posting that provides a table on the Solex parts number (tag and stamping on bottom of float bowl). To date I have found most of the information scattered throughout various postings and pics.

Please provide feedback and input to complete the table accurately. I will update upon consensus.

If I remember correctly, 1972 carbs have o-rings on the air horns. 73-4 have a flat section donut gasket.

Can someone help me identify what I have here? I believe them to be Pieces and parts of a 32-34 PDSIT-2/3 Carb set. I'm trying to identify correctly and sell.

Value suggestions are welcome too.

That's a 1973 model set up, reasonably complete too aside from the EGR tube(s) and anything aircleaner. If it's still in there don't lose the cup and spring out of the RH end of the throttle crossbar.

Value?, I'm not sure, If I needed them and was at a swap I'd offer you $50, they'll still need a few hundred $ trip to Tim's for rebuilds. Others may disagree.

yeah, I pretty much agree. Actually it was a VERY good setup when it was new and same basic thing used clear thru last air cooled Vanagons in ROW. I'm tempted to put such a setup in my 1980 Vanagon together with a small HP cam and bigger valves, then put in the biggest Venturis I can find. I think 28mm. I that setup should pass 20% more air, which 120% of 67hp is about 80hp. And possibly easier than FI.
Of course, on the Vanagon, T25, VW used a VERY low profile air cleaner.
I would NEVER consider using aftermarket air cleaners, BTW.
These carbs DID wear out the throttle shafts pretty badly. but new shafts and butterflys and bushings are available.

Well I had several buses from that era that had the stock solex duel carbs a72,73 & a 74..all ended up troubleson & had to be replaced. Once I put another set rebuilt on and they were fine for a couple years till the bus was sold . The 73 ended up with a 1600 type 1 engine and the ,74 I changed to 34 weabers. Ten years later when my 76 Westy caught fire and destroyed the wiring harness , I dug them out of the junk 74 which Sat 10 years in a swamp in Vt ,cleaned them up and they have been on my Westy for about 4 or five years. Great carbs ...I use the van from Apr to end of Nov every year..no chokes but pump it a bit & off I go..In fact I'm on a 500+ road trip right now..I get about 20+- mpg they say I need bigger carbs w the 2 liter engine so u know..I drive slow no more than 55 so to me dependability is the most important thing as t my age....Biil and my old solixes are avaiblr

Tim ( volkzbitz.com ) fixes the throttle shafts, some of his are going on ~5 years with lots of miles and I haven't heard anyone complain yet.
They are an exceptional carb when rebuilt properly, very well behaved in all climates and seasons.

But there's still going to be haters, I'm sure one will be along shortly. :wink:

I have a VW camper T2 Bay which has twin Solex 32 - 34 PDSIT - 3 carburettors. I need the valve-like part as marked in the attached picture because mine is full of stuff which we can't clean out - can you help, please? It's the 2.5cm long protruding piece, not the flat nut next to it. I don't know what it's called, nor what it actually does!!!

Welcome!

I'm not sure of the exact name, it's a thermostatic accelerator pump compensator.

It's only found on auto transmission carbs in 73/74 so it'll be pretty rare, I've never seen one for sale loose, the odd one shows up on core carbs.

Have you tried soaking it in various things like alcohol (methyl hydrate), carb cleaner and even vinegar if it's corroded?, how about an ultrasonic cleaner bath?, those things get anything loose.

A similar, if not identical part is also used on European spec carbs from 2.0l engines. I believe they all have it regardless of transmission. So maybe searching in Europe can be helpful.

Ahhhh, yes, the rest of the world likely used them longer, not everyone got FI in late 74.

There was a thread here quite a few years ago from a member in Australia with those, but I can't find it to see what exactly it does in the bowl, and if there's a work around to possibly delete it.

What is this dashpot looking thing on what I'm guessing is the EGR tube?

Also, does anyone know if the mixture tube is interchangeable between '72 and '73-'74?

The "thing" is the EGR valve.
The CIS tube will interchange (sort of), it'll have a bonus tube pointing to the back for the smog pump, and the outer ends may be angled a little higher to match the taller late manifolds (not sure on that one, the base is still the same).
