  View original topic: BOSCH Ignition Coil ohm specs @ 200-2000-20,000-200,000

What are acceptable "ohm" specs for the 12 volt BOSCH Blue Ignition Coil.
At the "4" readings below.
Primary - 200 & 2000
Secondary - 20,000 & 200,000
I'm thinking that the secondary windings in the BOSCH are shot.

200 -
2000 -
20,000 -
200,000 -

I'm getting.

BOSCH Blue Coil

200 - 3.3
2000 - 4
20,000 - 6.35
200,000 - 6.4

Delco Remy-Coil.

200 - 2.4
2000 - 4
20,000 - 10.60
200,000 - 10.30

No , both coils have reasonable resistances.
However take a look at the surface of the nose of the coil for burning or tracking if spark over the surface.

It may also be flashing over internally. For instance if it got hot it may lose insulation or if some oil leaks out of the coil


The ohm meter is not an adequate complete test for an ignitiin coil. It tells you only that both your coils may be worth testing further.

The ohm meter is not an adequate complete test for an ignition coil. It tells you only that both your coils may be worth testing further.

I have had burnt insulation on the nose of a coil , condenser going bad , electronic points wemulating burnt points and wires simply being loose on the coil.
As well as Taylor Spiro pro plug connectos springing off at 70mph before I knew how to put them on right.

I see no burning or tracking.
What other test needs to be done.

Always use reading in lowest scale of meter... It's most accurate...

As a rule "most" ignition coils are anywhere from about 0.5 to 5 ohms on primary and 7,000 to 15,000 on secondary....



In your case use the 200 scale on primary and 20k on secondary...

In some circles it would be 150,000.....Not 15,000...
