Hey guys, has anyone ever used a single weber ICT in 1600-1700 CC applications for their VW's? I am only asking because it seems to me that with a bit of work this carb could satisfy those who need a slightly larger "stock" center mount carb.

By work I mean making it fit a stock manifold, and possible jetting.

Well, the throttle plate is still 34 mm, but the vent is 27 mm as cast, right?

Works with SVDA right?

Jetting would probably need to be tweaked as well.

Any thoughts? Has anyone done this?

I have never seen a single ICT but I have seen a single Kadron but I am not sure how well it ran.
I have a couple 40mm Keihin CV carbs off a Harley that I want to try on a VW both single and double setups. For the single I would make a 90° adapter that fits on a stock manifold, one of these days.

Done it on a Type 4 engine with the Weber 34ICH (brother of the ICT), before somebody says can't be done I used the T127 industrial intake, worked good.

Building a 1600 T1 now, the plan is to use that ICH carb on it. the pull is 180* different for T1 application, the mounting bolt spacing is slightly narrower than the 34PICT nothing a rat tail file can't fix, the fuel comes in from the right.

None of those issues would be a deal killer, just need to do a little more work than a plug and play with a worn out Solex. Now somewhere back in my old grey matter memory I recall Redline telling me the ICT/ICH vac signal will work with the 34SVDA, I hope someone else chimes in on that one.

Not sure about the ICT but the ICH is available with 29mm ventri

As for jetting, it is a Weber, lots of jets available, nothing to worry about in that department.

Hello.
Since the ICT/ICH carbs are originally designed as a sgl carb feeding up to 4 cylinders I can see where that idea came from. I´m sure its possible, maybe not even that difficult. But from a performance stand point it is not worth the hazzle. The 34 mm Solex Pict3 is a much better carb than its reputation. People just don´t seem to underastand how it works.
For a 1776/1835 engine the easiest option (and I think also cheapest in the long run) is to rebuild the Pict and increase venturi size to 28 -28,5 mm. With that venturi size "everything works" as normal. You may want to increase the IAC jet, but apart from that and a main and idle jet adjustment it is plug an d play. Such a set up easily supports 80-85 hp if the rest of the engine is properly set up.
Next step is 30 mm venturi. Here you run into some smaller issues with proper vacum signal to the factory SVDA. It can be dealt with,m but expext some trial & error before you got it right. A 30 mm venturi is interesting if you have more displacement (1900-2000 cc) or if you want to rev a smaller displacement engine higher. (I have used 30 mm venturies right down to high compression semi radical cammed 1600 engines.) But I do not recomment that for a street car. 28 - 28,5 mm venturi´s make the carb and engine work much better/easier.
No venturi. It is also possible but requires some displacement underneath and also requires a good deal of tuning (Actually a lot)

The 34 Pict can be enlarged to 37 mm. Here it the venturi size starts at 30 mm and goes up to no venturi. The cheap solution ignition wise is to recurve a regular 009. The great solution is to use a stand alone Megajolt or CB Black box set up. such a carb can support up to about 120 hp in street trim, again, if the engine set up is designed for it.

The centermount Kadron solution: I worked a lot with that back around ´10 on after encouragement from among others Joel Mohr. I found that the carb is reasonably easy to set up jetting wise. The linkage is, - well, not easy to make so it works and looks nice, but doable. I also found that unless you are living on the high sierra, the first 5-7 minutes after a cold start the engine is absolutely hysterical, untill some heat gets built up in the manifold. Then it works fine and can actually run rather efficient on light throttle. If the Kad solution is to be run almost anywhere else in the World it will require a cold start enrichment system. And then the financial part just takes off, - completely. Powerwise there is really not any gain over the 34 Pict unless you really start to dig into the complete engine set up.

If you have stuff laying around and dare to be different its another story.

Thank you guys for your wisdom. The idea came to my mind when I started thinking about maybe increasing cc's on my 1699 to 1800 whenever it comes time to refresh it. (35k miles into it's life my compression readings are 120 on all four so that day is still far off.)

So I was thinking maybe an ict with its 27 mm vent would be interesting. Price on one carb is about 160 so... Not bad. Jetting would be a must. I figure maybe around 145 on the main would probably be it, 55 idle, or 60.

Now, the ICH looks very interesting too with it's 29 mm vent. Been looking into them too.

On the topic of a 34 pict... I think they can work great too.

A modified empi 34 pict would be great I think... I have had much success running these carbs on multiple people's (stock) cars. Really do run like butter. I'm impressed.

Thanks for all the replies. I'd love to see some pictures if anyone's got em!
