Hi.
I'm new to Beetles but have just picked up a non super '72 1300.
I need help identifying the carb so I can order a new injector for it, but a bit confused with all the different versions.
I see its a PICT 31, but not sure which dash model it is?

Thanks for any help

I can identify that carb. It's a H30/31PICT one made by Brosol (in Brazil) I'm no genius. I just saw it on the picures you provided.

Neither am I. I have no idea what you mean by "dash model' in relation with carb's.

Most solex carbs had a number stamped on the side of the mounting flange, not sure if the H30/31 did or not - not clear from the pictures you provided.

Also not sure what you mean by an "injector", but the generic Solex carb rebuild kit should work for that model.

Glutamodo did a thorough write up a while back:

The H30/31 most closely resembles a 30Pict-3 with an idle cutoff solenoid from a 34Pict-3. He has sometimes described it as a clone of the (non-US model) 31Pict-3.

I'm guessing the OP meant they needed to buy a new "idle cutoff solenoid"? This looks similar to an injector but functions to stop the flow of fuel and prevent "run-on" when the ignition is turned OFF. You can see it at the bottom of the left pic below.

Just be aware that the left side vacuum advance port ("A" in the below pic) in the H30/31 carb is "venturi vacuum" like found in earlier 30Pict carbs and meant for use with SVSA/SVA (vacuum-only) distributors. If you are using the carb with an SVDA or DVDA distributor you need to use the rear facing up angled port ("D" in the below pic) for vacuum advance. This port provides the "ported vacuum" needed by the vacuum advance on SVDA/DVDA distributors. This is discussed in the more recent posts in the above thread.

Thank you for the help :)

When I say dash model I mean I have seen carbs referred to as PICT30 -3 for example. I'm unfamiliar with carbs, having grown up with fuel injection and this is my first VW.

I was referring to part 36 in this diagram as the injector (I had seen this listed as such on some other diagrams)

The top faucet piece is not as tight fitting as I would expect and is out of shape from the ones seen. Are these the same between models as I see VW Heritage only list one? and this is where I will likely purchase parts from.

Thanks for the link too. I will give this a read.

Girl - I'm in USA and have that same Brosol Solex 30/31PICT carb on my 1600cc DP. That faucet - the spray tube from the accelerator pump should fit tight. Maybe you can distort the fitting a little to get yours to stay tight.

Yes, lots of those internal parts from other carburetors will fit.
