Hi everyone, I'm thinking to build a type 4 engine for my 54 oval window.
What do I need for the build? I know it's a lot of money but I don't care. I want a strong engine on my car, and I want to build it.
What's better, 2.4 or 2.6? The car is used only on weekends for cruising and having some fun, but I want more power.
I know that I can build a type 1, but I want a type 4
Thanks and greetings from Spain

A 2.0 liter Type one is no big deal, which makes a 2.0 Type 4 pointless.
http://www.europeanmotorworks.com/vw/type-4-pistons-cylinders.html
European Motor Works Sells 103 mm Pistons & Cylinders, as well as cranks up to 84mm so you could build a 2800 if you wanted to.
Or Jake Raby has a 2900 Monster for $31,000

Buy then you have to have the rest of the car capable of dealing with that kind of power.
I would stay aircooled because you don't have to cut the shit out of '54 Oval to support water cooling
here is another thread on running a type4

2316 or 2260. These are by far my favourites with cast iron cylinders. With good heads in a good combo they will pull 200 hp easy with loads of torque and very good durability.
With Nickies 98, 100 or even 102 mm bore is not a problem. If you absolutely want to build larger displacement with cast iron cylinders, then you should contact Gbot.dk and ask him to make you a set of cylinders out of Deutz diesel cylinders. That is THE way to go if its not Nickies.
Recently this guy tried a combo that I cooked up, a 2316 with really good heads. He pulled 230 hp at 6000 rpm. and 260 nm max torque. Try to pull 100 hp/l at 6 grand out of a conventional 103 set up. Aint gonna happen.
