How screwed am I? It's started to POUR 2 mornings ago and I woke up and realised my bus was uncover and had some exposed bodywork. It was primered, but I know that both are pourous....Am I screwed or not?

As long as it is primed you should be OK. I wet sanded all my primer for 12 years of professionaly building street rods and never had a problem, I dont see how rain would be any different. Exposed plastic or metal may be a problem.

I agree with Firehawk, as long as it was primed, you should be fine. It's un-primed bodywork you've gotta worry about. Exposed bondo soaks up water like a sponge.

If you're wet sanding your filler and go trough it and hit the bondo,
will this cause any problem? :?

Thanks

When you are wet sanding and start to go through stop sanding as soon as you notice the primer starting to go through. Is use a little air from heat gun or put the car in the sun for a few minutes before you reprime that spot, if your cutting through its probably not as straight as you want and it needs reprimed. Never blow compressed air on the plastic to dry it out, youll just push the water into it. Just let it dry out with a little heat and it will be fine, if its just a sand through you really didnt get that much water on it.

Primer is NOT waterproof. Wetsanding is not a problem because it is generally dried and followed by a top coat. Getting some rain on it shouldn't cause you any problems either as long as it dries failry quickly. I would probably scuff it back down reprime to be safe. If there is some moisture hiding in there somewhere, you don't want to find out after its painted and bubbling.

How is scuffing it and repriming going to help if moisture is trapped? If the moisture is there its there. I would think letting it set open so if anything is trapped moisture can get out would be better.

I also must say i believe there are some primers that are waterproof like epoxey primers and i believe acrylic urathane ones are waterproof but i could be wrong..

No Firehawk, I meant sand all the primer back off, removing any syrface rust behind the primer, let it air dry, then reprime and top coat. Primer is indeed not waterproof, if it was, there would be no reason to topcoat it. Water can still penetrate through a layer of primer and wreak havoc later on down the road. It's certainly better than bare metal, but it is not absolutely waterproof....but its your Bus....your choice.
