What is the story on this pulley? Is it anything special? Someone told me its a gene berg pulley that they dont make anymore? Wondering on approx value as well.
Thanks

They still make them. |

That would be a Berg "Equalizer" pulley they came out quite a few years ago... basic theory is adding weight to the front of the crank acts as a "harmonic balancer" like so many other engines have...
I have never ran one, but like anything else heard good things, and some scoffing from others about "just another marketing thing"
I think they still sell them or a version of them, did you check their website?
Maybe some of the more knowledgeable Hi-performance guys will enlighten us further. |

digging up an old thread...
does anyone have an idea of how much heavier the berg pulley is than a stock item? |

I think they're 8.5 pounds. |

They are 7.5 to 6.25 lbs in weight, depending on the model. The power pulley being the heavier of the two. I am guessing more weight to make up for smaller diameter. |

The "achiever" is advertised as 3.25lbs, the "equalizer" is 6lbs, for stock size. More info on the theory:

ah, ok... so I am bolting a second pulley to my stock 36hp pulley for a charger...
do we suppose that if it is under 3lbs it will be ok?
it is actually 1.4lbs... plus an adaptor plate not yet made... just thought I would ask... |

If it can be ballanced, sure.
PS, I had thought of making a dual pulley by grooving out a second belt groove on a Berg Pulley or the EMPI version of the pulley. |

Machining a second groove into the 6lb pulley is a good idea, there is a good amount of material there. If adding an additional pulley on top of the stock pulley, maybe consider the Berg bolt as it's a bit longer than stock. |

yeah, I have the 7" 36hp pulley, and a 5.75" poly-v charger pulley to bolt together.
maybe i would be better getting the whole thing machined as one unit, but hen I wouldnt be able to mess around changing pulleys for more boost etc... |

If you plan on running a heavy pulley, make Sure you have it balanced to your crank/flywheel/clutch assembly BEFORE the motor is built.
Otherwise you are wasting your Time and money. |

I have a pulley that is about 7", and has two grooves. It is cast aluminum, looks cheap. I thought it was from a AC kit but not sure.
Good idea to use the berg or empi pulley for a supercharger! I'm doin that too, eventually :D I bought the empi and it is not as tight fit as berg, but maybe that is good thing |
