View original topic: PPG Deltron Reducer and Activator needed

Hey Guys:

I have some PPG Deltron DBC base coat paint (VW paint code LH5U), but I need a gallon of the correct Reducer (PPG DT-860 or DT 870) to reduce and shoot this expensive base coat product.

I also need only a small amount of the PPG base coat activator that goes by the PPG product number DX-57.

I bought my Deltron base and my DCU 2021 clear just before the VOC laws changed and I have no idea where my reducer and activator ended up, but I just can't find them in that mess I call my garage.

Does anyone have any DT-860 (fast) or DT 870 (medium speed) and any DX-57 they would be willing to sell?

Does anyone know where I could buy some?

Thanks in advance.

Old stock comes up from time to time on eBay, but it goes fast.

Thanks, Dylan. I'll try FleaBay also, but a Google search brought nothing.

I will keep my eyes open for you.
Certain States may have laws that still allow it.
MA possibly.
I needed to get a permit to purchase "haz mat" to get some of the "good stuff" I needed recently.

NY is going waterbourne.
When it does, I'm done throwing paint around.

Wesco Autobody Supply in Bellingham should be able to help you out with these products, they are still legal in Washington State. But not in Canada

I can get both PPG items for you--
ORMD shipping may be an issue, but I can get it-- & fresh product--not some older material which for the hardener would be a problem.

Thanks TK, good to know.

Not a paint guy so no idea if this is helpful, but I have almost a gallon of Omni reducer left over from painting my Vanagon which will eventually be donated to someone. It's MR186 and you are welcome to it free if its of use.

Nason Won't work with any PPG product.

Thanks, everybody. TK has found what I need.

Nice, TK! The powah, of Samba!!

My offer still stands. I have no use for this stuff. Terry, will this stuff keep on a shelf to the point where I should hang on to it? Or since it was opened and a small amount used will it have an abbreviated shelf life? Any guesses as to when I should give up and bring it to the landfill? I absolutely hate to do that, though we have a system where it is combined with other recycled solvents and shipped off to some plant for recombination and use, vs dumped in a creek.

Whups, should add my Vanagon was painted in May of 2014 - a year ago. That project is where this came from.

Reducer will keep forever on the shelf, or until it all evaporates out of the can.

Hardener, catalyst, converter, whatever you want to call it, will turn to concrete, jello on the shelf--
Unless you keep if refrigerated, and then it'll last as long as you need it to.

I keep all of my pinstriping hardener, paint hardeners in a little fridge in the garage so it doesn't go bad.
The stuff is too expensive to toss--

That Nason Reducer can be used with Centari--and Nason Paint--that's about it.

Cool, thanks! If nobody PMs me to have it, I'll see if the local colleges have an autobody shop that can use it.
