From time to time I help my friends (girls) out with their Jettas, it's the nice thing to do you know  . Anyway, my friend brought her 2000 mk4 in with these faults:

I know about the immobilizer, she uses her valet key. Engine coolant temp sensor has been whack for awhile, but I'm thinking the O2 sensor just shit the bed. Would a bad O2 sensor give the misfires too? She had a new CAT put in last year, and I checked, it's still there. She also mentioned that when the surging/dieing happens the exhaust smells, so I really think the O2 sensor ist kaput. Going to have at it tomorrow. |

Yup, replace the CTS and O2 sensor. Then clear codes and see what comes back. How old are plugs and wires? What does measuring block 32 show? Sometimes MAF's cause misfires w/o throwing a lean/trim code. |

So far, new oxygen sensor (before CAT). New CTS. The vacuum line from the electric solenoid to the SAI combi valve was totally broke and unhooked, replaced that. Vacuum line from the manifold to the FPR was also broken in half, replaced that. Fixed a shorted out fuse that was turning her driver's side tail light off and making the cluster lights go out (parking light wire was shorting as the bulb holder got busted off long ago). She said she had the plugs done 4-5 years ago? It definitely needs a tune up (plugs, wires, coil pack) but she's moving to Hawaii and the Jetta isn't priority.
Fun little car. |
