Answer to the question, "What belt do I use for the alternator on the Subaru EJ251 after I delete the power steering pump?".
I measured the circumference required for the alternator belt without the power steering pump using a tiny tape measure, and it was about 27-1/2".
As a reference, the air conditioning belt is a Gates K040353 (4PK897), so I looked up the Gates chart and found the following:
K040353 ............................... 35-7/8" (912mm) 9/16" (14mm) 40°
As said, the measured circumference for the alternator to crank pulley is about 27-1/2", so, within the 5 rib series, this belt came up as the closest match:
K050275 ............................... 28-1/4" (717mm) 21/32" (17mm) 40°
I'm certain the answer is in multiple places on the forum. I just couldn't find it. So, here is an easy reference, with easy searchable keywords.
Cheers! |

I just did this but can't find the part number.
At my FLAPS (auto zone) the belt part numbers are coded by length and rib count.
I used a piece of string to go around the pulleys. where the end crossed I marked with a sharpie. went to the FLAPS, they put it on the belt length gauge and from there I could pick shorter or longer up/down the part numbers. The return policy made it nice for getting a few and just keeping the one that I thought best.
at this length my FLAPS had only the 4 rib whereas the alt is 5 rib. the 5 rib is avail somewhere but the 4 rib is working just fine (maybe because it does not have power steering) |

NAPA also sells the Gates belts, they should be able to have it overnight. |

YOU ARE CORRECT!! Credit where credit is due. The belt is indeed a 5 rib belt. I have corrected my original post, so as not to confuse anyone. Thank you for keeping me straight. |
