Question that I haven't found an answer in searching the forum - what kind of crimping tool works on fuel line crimp clamps?
Specifically, would a crimping tool for PEX water lines work? I have a crimping tool for the stainless steel PEX crimps and they look very similar to the crimp clamps that I'm about to order from German Supply.
The tool that I have is here:
http://www.amazon.ca/Watts-PEX-P-949-Ratcheting-St...mping+tool
If no one knows I'll report back...
Thanks

Thanks - I like the pex crimping tool because it won't damage the clamps when you're putting them in. I'll give it a try and report back to how it works.

Hi
That is the right tool. I do not know if it will do the small Injection clamps. The specs say 3/8" is the smallest clamp the Pex will do.
If I remember right the Inj. hoses are 7 mm. That puts them just over 1/4".
Good Luck |

end cutters - if you have to squeeze so hard that the clamo is damaged the hose was damaged long before that . And, if you want to dedicate them to crimping, round the teeth a little with a file or grinder. |

Or.....just get proper fuel injection clamps....so as the line permanently compresses under the clamp you can re-tighten it so it does not leak. Hate those crimp clamps. They leak soon in hot climates. Ray |

I use CV boot clamp pliers. Works the best.

This. He means the screw clamps with a smooth metal inside band and a curved section under screw. You can remove and re-install them as needed for Mx.
The crimp-on clamps are not better than screw clamps, they're just cheaper and quicker to install on the assembly line. Unless you're a resto purist. |

Could not have said it better myself. The only place I EVER use crimp clamps is on gas tank vent lines where the line runs so close between tank and body that a smooth band screw clamp will not fit.
The problem with crimp clamps is that with heat and vibration and outgassing of the rubber in hose.....the rubber compacts during the crimp....then shrinks with age. It creates vacuum leaks that come and go with heating and cooling and you can chase them forever.
Th ed factory use of crimp climps in certain areas of the fuel injection in early years was slmost criminal in its leak producing potential. Just my experience. Ray |

Thanks for the feedback - I'll go with screw-type hose clamps then. It will also make it easier to replace them next time I do the fuel lines. |

I hope you're not in a hurry. German Supply will gladly take your money and leave you sitting around waiting for months for your parts to arrive. All while completely avoiding your emails asking when your parts will be shipped. Don't have to take my word for it, check their feedback. |

Been there. I used to spend tons of cash there and got burned. 6 months at least it took on my order and it showed with things missing and on back order that I could get in less than a week if I had sourced them myself. Guys all talk on this site. Scott has a lot of knowledge about buses but zero on how to run a business. |
