View original topic: What exactly is this for? Rubber buffer/cage on sliding door
lightice Sun Apr 27, 2014 1:01 am

What are these parts for and how do they go on the door?
Are they 'necessary'? Or is it a 'if its still on, its good, if it's missing, heck it' part?

211-843-467/A Mounting plate, sliding door front buffer
211-843-471 Front buffer, sliding door - Typ 2, 68-84
211-843-475 Bush, sliding door front buffer - Typ 2, 68>84

Thanks

Quote: This rubber door buffer fits to the front edge of the sliding door lock at helps prevent the door banging whilst closing This fits either side on all T2s from 1967 to 1979 and T25 from 1979 to 1984. Also fits the Brazilian Bay window model.
That's the description I found for the front buffer.

Thanks KJ, the description may want to be amended to include the sliding splits from 64-67.

I actually found it in the parts list and it's missing from my bus, doing a part search I found that it was also for bays. But trying to search pictures on bay doors I couldn't see it on the leading edge of the door so had no idea what it is for, and whether it should be obtained as a more critical part or I can just leave it out.

Also searched WW and they don't have that in stock.

You need it, that style of door won't stay closed without it.

Hi busdaddy, thanks for the pictures.

Where does the bush go?

Also, on my bus the 'striker plate' at the front is non-existent.

Instead, the steel there has a similarish cutout/indentation to accomodate this buffer, but the moulding is not so intricate. It's basically just a big slot.

I know it's the wrong bus forum, but it shares the same parts as a bay for this matter. And the number of split sliders are really few. Appreciate the replies.

Ahhh yes, the split has the striker stamped into the pillar. I'm not positive but I seem to recall the bay buffer is slightly different from the split part, looks like it could be adapted though. The bush is (AFAIK) the steel sleeve that goes through the rubber so you can torque up the screw without squishing the rubber.

I sort of lied about the door not staying closed, the upper and lower rollers will keep it on the bus but it'll rattle like crazy and slam with a horrifying clang which can't be good for those hard to find rollers and other parts.

I checked the part list and those were the exact part numbers listed.

Also using this picture as a reference:

The rubber piece is there as I was surfing the classifieds.

Currently my door doesn't move about much, but I'll try to find this piece(s) for the bus. I do have a problem finding the rubber gromment on the striker pin as per the image above. Might have to fashion one out of an eraser with an exacto knife :)

Oh boy I hope your not closing that door other than by hand. Cause yes that will break parts. Yes the striker plate that the bumper hits is made into the body of split buses. You need that part unless you want to push the door in place every time you close it. And yes Id guess it would rattle with out this part.

I'm a bit confused, close the door other than by hand? I'm not sure how else to close it?

I push the door quite slowly and inwards until the rear latch catches the rear striker. Then I pull the handle up to complete the latching.

no problem. 2 ways to close the door are, the method you describe and the slam method. Slam method you just slide the door quickly and it does the rest. Im always nervous when I do that, so I try not to, and I have all the parts  Just afraid somethings going to break. Just like the handle mechanism I had to replace. Its not real beefy inside.

a very useful post , now i can sell all my early bay and vanagon buffers to the extremely elite splitty slider owners.

I don't consider QMC or myself elite by any standard.

I guess it just happened that we chanced across the sliders. lol...
