Hi , Does anyone know of any VW junk yards or places that sell used bugs, beetles parts or cars for parts or repair in Connecticut. Back in the 1980's and 90's There was Culpepper off road in Bridgeport Ct i think Randy was his name who ran it. There was a place in Stratford called Volksville that repaired classic bugs and had alot of used parts. Now there seems to be no one left so if you guys know of any in or around the CT (Mass,RI,NY) area let me know Thanks!!!!

I remember Culpeppers. Right under 95 on the corner. Not sure what happened to that place. Doing a quick google search I see a phone number still listed and an Olive Street address too. Maybe he moved?

I don't know of any junk yards though. There are some Samba members in Ct and MA listing lots of parts in the classified section. What are you searching for?

Hi Jpro thanks for the reply. Just seeing if there were any old style junk yards left in CT. I guess everybody is gone. Hard place for old volks to survive snow, ice ,rain you know.

Hey fellow CT bro, there aren't many old time junkyards around here anymore, but here are a few that Ive come across. The first one is definitely still there, the next two I haven't been to in years so they might be gone despite the fact that you can see 'em on Google maps.

The only place I know that still has a bunch of bugs, a few buses and a few other odds and ends kicking around is Freccia Bros Auto in Greenwich CT. They're right on the Post Road (on the left) heading toward New York. I think they're just after the Audi dealer. They do all classic vw repairs and have a boneyard. Don't know if they sell their parts cars, never asked, so it couldn't hurt to ask. They're a bunch of good people!

There's also Simon Used Auto Parts in Carmel NY. I have never been inside OR even inquired about parts, however, I have driven passed the place several times and its a huge old junkyard with some decently aged looking iron in it. I am probably gunna be calling them in the spring to ask about stuff. The house out front is amazingly creepy too...like Texas Chainsaw Massacre stuff, pretty cool. So I only know this place exists, I have no idea if they sell anything whole. Might just be a crazy guy with a car fetish, who knows.

There used to be (I think all the cars got pulled out and crushed but I cant verify that) this amazing old junkyard in Colchester CT. It was filled with super old stuff as well as stuff from the 60's-80's. There was a nice looking 71 super shell about to fall into the road off a stack of Edsels when you drove passed the place haha. The first car I came across there was a light yellow 61 beetle (totally shot) that was 100% surrounded by trees. I have no idea how they got it back there! There was also a split window single cab bus in there with a huge ladder rack that had canvas covering the bed.....that was the last thing we saw before we got kicked out. Thought the place was abandoned...seriously, the place was pretty much in the middle of nowhere! Again, that place might be gone.

This one is going up route 8 toward Mass. Get off exit 36, Huntingdon Ave, take a right at the end of the ramp and immediately on the right there is a somewhat large Mobil? station and the back is called Valley Auto Body. One side of the parking area was full of old cars, then all the way in the back of the joint there was this a pretty big junkyard. The station is kind at the top of a hill so you look down over the junkyard, there was a ghia and a beetle in the mix. Actually, you might be able to see the yard from the highway now that there's no leaves. The lady said that nothing was for sale because they were gunna restore all the cars and open a museum...yeah right, there were easily 150+ rusty cars down there. But who knows, they might still not be for sale. You can actually spot a yellow beetle in the yard from Google maps haha.

I'm also always on the hunt for good CT junkyards. If I come across a good one I'll let you know. Let me know what you find.

As someone with both a VW as well as an Edsel that place in Colchester sounds wonderful! Do you remember whereabouts it was? I did a quick look on google maps but didn't see much. As you said it may be gone by now.

King thank you for your reply. I remember the good old days when you could go to a local junkyard and walk around and ck out the cars. They would even let you pull your own parts back then. I guess with scrap metal hitting all time highs it pays to crush and scrap them ;too bad i bet alot of vintage metal was melted up! It saddens me to think of it...again thanks for the info...restore them DO NOT CRUSH!!!!!!!!!

I google street viewed the Culpeppers address. 276 Olive Street in Bridgeport looks like a single story warehouse. Wonder what's inside?

Hey everyone! Resurrecting this thread from the dead! Speaking of CT, does anyone remember a place called the Volkswagen Farm? I used to go in the early 80s as a kid to get parts with my friends dad. IIRC it was somewhere in Goshen or Winsted, on a back road in the woods. I'm not talking about Mechanical Advantage in Barkhamsted, although maybe they were associated?
