there is no question here, just know I had a hard time finding a solid answer for this question years ago. yesterday I took one and inspected in on a Smart Scope and verified the radius is 14mm. so if you're buying lug bolts or nuts for your VW or porsche wheels make sure they are R14. Not R12 or R13. I have to return a set I bought from an online VW store because they are R13 and are not correct for my Porsche phone dial wheels. The store was not aware that there are different radii for ball seat lugs. I informed them... |

I went through the same ordeal. I have the 17" Empi Fuchs-replicas that take ball-seat lugs. My rotors came drilled and taped with 14x1.5 threads. Rather than using 14x1.5 studs, with the expensive Porsche alloy lug nuts, I went with Mercedes chrome lug-studs, which have a ball seat, just like Porsche.
After some confusion over the phone, I just took a wheel over to the wheel shop so that I could try different lugs in the wheels. I can't remember now if I ended up with R13 or R14 but I remember getting a quick education on it at the time. Mercedes uses two sizes of ball seat lugs, the large size, which is used on their big SUV (and also on the Audi Q7, I believe) had a 19mm hex head, and the ball-seat radius was much larger than the ball-seat on my wheels. The smaller Mercedes size, which is used on their cars (everything except the SUV) had a 17mm hex head, and the ball-seat radius was the same as my wheels.
The thing that threw me off was I was expecting to have a 19mm hex head, because that is what the Porsche alloy lug nuts have. But apparently the chrome/steel Mercedes lug bolts use the same Porsche (R14?) ball-seat, but with a smaller 17mm hex head. I don't have any idea what the R number is for the larger size ones they use on the SUV, but it was huge and wasn't even close to fitting my wheel.
The ones I'm using look like this, and they come in different lengths, which is nice because I needed longer ones on the rear because I have spacers.
