Hello everyone. I have been away from the forum and volkswagens for sometime now. I moved to DC for a job and left my VW bug in Georgia thinking my parents would start the car and drive it once a month...This did not happen.

Anyway my poor bug needs to be restored. I restored it in Highschool and it's been neglected for some time. I am looking for a place in Georgia that does VW restoration.

I am not looking for a show quality resto, but a nice daily driver resto with new paint ect..

Anyone know of a good pace? I had always wanted to get a restored engine from Tims VW repair, but I think he is retired or out of buisness by now. I also remember a place in Buford, but again it's been so long I am out of the loop.

Any trustworthy places that do excellent work?

Thanks

Where are you at in Georgia?
Check out our site at:

We have a whole section of shops listed at the bottom of the page. As well as a section of local clubs and events/get togethers happening around the state.

the guys at air-cooled restorations in Jasper GA are good. there is a handful of shops in GA. just find one that you like and is close.

I have dealed with a shop called Herrell's Bug Parts in Carrolton. I have bought parts from them for years, and recently had them tune my motor for me, and have always been happy with their service. I have heard that they do restorations as well, so that is another recommendation.

I have been in contact with aircooled in jasper. They seem nice and I will be making a trip out to see them sometime next year.

AH man Tim went out of business i loved that place the both of them were great and awesome prices. Well for type 1 the rest he didn't really care to work on let alone straight out refused to work on dual carbs lol .

It's possible. Bremen is a little north of Carrolton.

That's great! I have always wanted a rebuilt engine from Tim's. I remember going to his shop about 7 years ago and seeing them all sitting on the floor. He was building another one as we talked, as if just pouring himself a glass of milk.

On to the restoration... I have contacted Joey without a response back yet. I might give him a call if I get no response from email. I also contacted vintage VW in jasper. I have emailed back and forth with Rick. He seems like a nice guy and I plan on taking the bug by his shop sometime early this year for an estimate.

Anyone have a preference or recommendation for an engine rebuild? I have heard good things about Tim's and also Advanced VW in Decatur, GA.

Probably best place to have your engine done is www.proflowperformance.com
They assembled my 1800cc and I was very happy.

I priced out parts to build amother engine from Tim. He'll do a rebuild for 7 or 800 . He will also sell you a bunch of parts and you can build it yourself. Prices he gave were very fair. 180 for a bored out block, 140 for P&Cs I think he even had German cranks for 65. I have the list around somewhere if you want his prices for all the parts

Dukebluedevilvw Sat Jan 05, 2013 10:03 pm

1)Tim's VW Repair (Austell)
2)Advanced Imports (recently left decatur, relocating his shop, but probably should be ready by now)
3)The Bug Shop (Northside Drive SW, currently trying them out)
4) Imports Service and Restoration (Atlanta road)
5) Herrels Bug Parts (as referenced above by other members, but out in carrolton)
6) Hot Road Choppers

Not sure who I'd like best, each have their characteristics, been going through full restorations of multiple VWs (for the past decade) - would love to help any enthusiast out. PM me.

Keeping the Volkswagen dream alive.

Do you happen to have Tim's number? Did Tim's son take over the business?

I remember always wanting to get a rebuilt engine from Tim, but never had the money while I was in school.

Thanks
