I read on the web that there is a thing called E70s-6 mig wire that is more tolerant to slight rust than ER70s-6 wire. I ordered a 2lb roll of it to try it out and it is labled as ER70s-6. I checked other sources for the wire and the ads describe the wire as E70s-6 but if you look at the image on the webpage they read ER70s-6 AND have the part number for the E70s-6 wire printed on them. Does anyone know the rundown on this?
Thanks in advance! |

The company I ordered the roll from states that they sent the wrong one so I will repost when I get the replacement roll and after I try it out. I had sandblasted off Heavy scale on a suspension part and If I had used a grinder would have lost approximately 1/3 of the thickness because of the irregular surface the rusting process left. It was maybe 14gage sheet metal welded to a cast iron axle assembly from a jeep. I got almost all of the rust out (99%+)of the craters but it still caused a problem with ER70-6 wire. |

I emailed an actual welding supply vendor to try to get some answers instead of the general hardware vendor with the good price on the E70s-6 2 lb roll and this is it.

We actually do not carry E70S-6. There was a typing error on the two Harris wires we carry. They are actually ER70S-6. Our website has been corrected.
As far as E70S-6 goes. If you look at the AWS specs of most selling E70S-6 it typically will be A5.18 ER70S-6. So with that said E70S-6 is the same as ER70S-6.

Subject: E70s-s different than ER70s-6 wire?
Hi, I have read that E70s-6 welding wire is more tolerant to dirty or slightly rusted metal than ER70s-6. The problem is that most of sellers of E70s-6 have a image for ER70-s in their webpage ads and the part number for the two are the same. Could you please explain this? If I buy a roll of E70s-6 from you , will it have a different part number than ER70s-6 and read (E70s-6) on the product it's self?
Thanks for your expertise!

What was the problem you were having? Cracking in the welds? If that was the case that will happen if you dont weld cast iron the correct way. |
