I used the standard bushings, not the urethane ones. I was told it didn't matter |

Here is a great thread on removing and installing the bushings yourself, this is how I learned how to do it. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=611484&highlight=trailing+arm+bushings |

Old thread... new question...
When replacing these rear trailing arm bushings (with the red urethane ones), obviously you need to remove the three bolts holding the trailing arm to the spring plate but do you need to disconnect everything else ie, brake lines, parking brake cables, cv joints etc..??
Hoping to avoid removing the entire arm from the car if possible.
Thanks in advance for your input.

The issue is not installing the three piece red urethane bushings, it's getting the old, hardened rubber bushings out of the end of the trailing arm. Even with the trailing arm on your work bench, it's still a bitch to pound, cut, burn, press those old bushings out. The only thing worse would be trying to do all that under the car with it hanging by the brake lines, and cables. With the trailing arms out, it's also a good time to check over all the other rear end suspension components. |

Just thought I’d add a removal method.
Big bottom socket wasn’t deep enough for full push... so, I had to remove the first of the two steel sleeves when it pushed through.

This Bentley drawing messed me up until I actually read it. Both washers go on the outside, not on either side
