Hi everyone,

Could you tell me where should I look for a set of stripe stickers for T2 Champagne Edition?
I am looking for a "off shelf" set, ready to be applied.
Every idea would be greatly welcome as my bus is ready and all is missing are the stickers really.

Ciao

No Champagne Editions in 1979.

Usually the stripes were a dealer installed thing that were optional if you did not want them.

Thanks mate, I was sure it is Champagne? Maybe I mixed up the year?
I have to check it.
Looks like champagne to me...
Came from US by the way.

If I would decide to have them, where to buy? order? Cheers

Certainly appears to be a Champagne! Whats the third digit in the VIN number? An 8?

Nice van BTW!

jan-in-uk Thu May 31, 2012 8:12 am

Yes, it is 8.
And it is 1978, my mistake.
And thank you for kind words, it looks even better right now, just didn't have time to make photos.
Apart of few small bits it is ready to drive :)
Still looking for these stickers tho.

Nice photos in your gallery, is it yours? :)
Mine has aircon as addition to it.

Check out this thread and then PM the guy that did the bus, he may be able to help you with the stripes thing.

Sweet bus though!

I have always wanted one and never had one. I am not sure if the Champagne II was just a "North American thing" or if they were also sold in Europe.

I think I would look for the striping from a local sign guy. I will bet he would know where to get them.

Thanks a lot, sent him PM and we will see.
I think due to the fact this Champagne isn't so popular/not many of them it is hard to buy it ready anywhere :(

I have a '78 champagne edition westy. I have to say for a vehicle that was suppose to be a limited edition to celebrate the end of the bays VW chose some damn ugly colors to paint these. The westfalias are the shit brown with white and then the buses the reddish shit brown with fox red and a red cordoroy(sp?) interior. Why????? I know its blasphemy but when it comes time to repaint my bus I'm changing the shit brown to a light tan that was available then. It was already repainted once on one side so I wont be ruining original paint and besides the bus is for ME not the next guy. All the champagne edition stuff will be left. So IF I ever sell it the next guy can repaint the outside back to the dark brown if they so like and have the champagne edition westy the way it was sold.

The irony is that I love some browns on vehicles.....just not THESE browns.

Yeah, I know 70's (avacado, pumpkin, squash, buttermilk, etc kitchen appliance colors) but look at ALL of the other colors they had to choose from that were popular then and that they themselves used, yet they still chose to go with these colors..........ick. It doesnt exactly scream celebration.

Browns and Oranges were popular into the 80s. I remember when my folks had their 71 Chevy Van converted in 82 into a custom cruzer inside and out - it was painted a root beer brown with an orange belt line. Inside interior to match

Before that it was a red-white-blue color scheme from 1976 Bicentenial. Big old flag on the roof, gold eagle on the hood!

! You take offense to your colors? My bus is hideous but I liken a color change to separating conjoined twins.....it just wouldn't be special anymore if I changed it. My funny stripes were printed off at a local vinyl shop for 50.00. I did a rubbing to map the spacing properly and took a scrap of the old stripe over to get the colors right.

super cheap and looks great.

Op-what is that box thing that is hanging in the right side?

You need to try and contact the CE2 owner who featured in VolksWorld here in the UK, he had the stripes reproduced exactly on this restoration:

Call Les at the Bullibarn in Colchester, I believe he was the previous owner of the bus before the restoration, and may be able to point you in the right direction regarding reproduction of the stripes:

When we restored our 78 champagne, George Sedlak (artist for Evel Knievel) professionally made stripes to put on the bus. :D
