Just picked up an old sad looking Kelmark. I know the Dino's are really rare so I am determined to restore this one. It is on a 68 bug frame with a corvair 110hp conversion. Any help on where to find any parts or info for this old girl would be much appreciated. I have a feeling I will have to fab pretty much everything myself. Does any one else here have one?

"Had" one:
Probably one of the better built kits. Kelmark specific parts will need to be fabricated. Windshield and back window are not Kelmark specific (I can't remember off the top of my head what they belong to). Doors usually need some work. Nose needs to be well supported to prevent stress cracks near the front wheels. Windows actually work well.
Overall seating and driving position is among the better of kit cars.
Looks like yours needs just a little roof work. |

mine def needs roof, door, and pan work. I actually have the original build manual and docs for the car. I have always thought this was one of the best kit bodies, or at least one that doesn't make me gag like the laser.
Windshield is ford pinto and I will have to have the back one made as it was kelmark. the side windows are the rear 1/4 windows out of a chevelle. Fortunately my side windows are good, just not the tracks. |

No wonder the side window looks off, they are backwards. If you took some black paint and changed the leading edge of the side window to match the windshield/door line it would look much better and be easy to do. Tom |

Windshield is Ford Pinto/Mercury Bobcat; door windows are the rear side windows from the 1974-76 Chevrolet Caprice/Impala 2-door... NOT Chevelle.

Left rear window on Caprice/Impala is right door window on Kelmark... and vice-versa.

Heard Chevelle. They look a lot like the chevelle malibu rear 1/4s. You are correct, they are caprice windows. Fortunately I have good side glass. I have the parts list for the build if anyone needs any of the numbers.

I definitely have my work cut out for me. I am going to start with a better chassis, then build in a mild tube cage so I can reinforce the roof when i reglass it. the body will line up the door edges when I get that done. It was a large branch that fell on the roof years ago. I have heard there are less than maybe 40 of these left. |

They appear to be off track, or dropped in doors. |

Thanks, I have both of those lists and the manual. :)
Both windows are off track. they will require a lot of work. going to be toward the end of the project. I am going to take them out for now so they don't get broken |

I was kicking around doing one of those a year or so ago. The Kelmarks have a lot of variations, so keep that in mind (VW, tube frame, V8, etc) There are a couple on line forums for the cars and the members were very helpful when I was doing my research. I deleted all the links so you will just have to do a search.
Make sure you fully understand the magnitude of the project - Body work is the real big thing on this and you will need to get real good with fiberglass. But they do look sooooooo cool. |

Thanks :D It is going to be a challenge, and correctly said I will have to get real good with fiberglass. I already joined the 2 forums. Mine has the vw IRS chassis adapted to a corvair 110hp engine .This always has been my favorite model and it has been a dream of mine to do a kit car, so why not Resurrect a rare one in the process :) |

I always enjoyed the look of the dash in these cars. They used a VDO series called "Jet Cockpit" that were made in the late '70s/early '80s for just a few years. These are extremely hard to come by and when you can find them, they are not cheap. Fix them up if you can.

I can only hope mine turns out anything like yours did. Do you have any pics or a build thread somewhere I can reference to when I get mine started along? This will be my first kit and to restore an old one is going to be a challenge.. Jeremy |
