Hey guys, I plan to patch some rust holes on my pan. They are about palm size and I figured to lay down some sheet metal vs stripping the whole thing out. Unfortunalely, welding is not an option so I considered an alternative: 3M 08115 adhesive.
I was sold on the idea and found it locally. It then dawned on me that the applicator is so damn expensive. I believe there is a cheaper applicator gun but it is still around $100. For a paint/body shop i can understand but for the average DIY? Is there a more affordable alternative to this applicator tool or is there no way around it? That is making it a dealer breaker for me. If I had that much money, I might as well buy a simple mig welder. |

What? I bought 3M's gun and it was only $40 on Amazon. I think you may be looking at the wrong thing.
I don't know how well it works, but you could always push some of both ends out and mix it together and spread it. It's just an epoxy and activator. |

:? Just my .02 but the fine folks at 3M spent loads in r/d on this stuff. From the automix nozzles to the gun. I bought the gun etc...didn't like to but I didn't want to run the risk of a poor mix...do you? I used the adhesive and the seam sealer and so far so good. It sucks but do it right or buy a different product. |

Not all auto paint stores are equal, but my local one will buy the gun back if returned clean. |

Be careful mixing that adhesive without using the tips. You won't likely see it, but mixing by hand can induce tiny air bubbles into the adhesive, potentially weakening it. |

^^thank you!
they make the guns and the tips for a reason...not just to make oney off you.
considering the tips are only 10 bucks for a 50 pk. and a used gun off egay is like 40 too...it's really not hard to invest in peice of mind. |

For small patching you can use this adhesive. It comes in tubes and is extremely strong. Ive used it on doorskin bottoms. Try amazon.
All you arguing experts: save it.
