So i was trying to think of semi-cheap ways of paint my bug and i came across many people who had just painted their bug with normal camo. I didn't really want normal camo, i wanted something different, unique, so instantly though of Aircraft and their camo.
So this is my question, what does everyone think of this idea? any suggestions/tips on design and paint choice.
The plane of choice is a Messerschmidt BF-109, i found a pretty cool list of historical 109 designs.

A bug will never resemble an airplane! Go with an original type enamel or base coat/clear coat if you really want to be Proud of it. No metallic paint! You can do a two-tone paint job if you want? |

Sorry, It's been done already! I live near the Planes of Fame and thought a P40 Warhawk would be cool...kinda badass and nerdy all at once. Or at least some nose art would be cool too!

I don't bash on ideas just to make myself feel good... but I think that particular design of camo would make your bug look like a rusty, primered, spray- painted junker that's been sitting in the tall grass in a field for too long. Of course, execution is everything.
If you must go retro military, I'd do it up all the way and try to match to a particular authentic style (Swiss, German, etc). To that end, I'd suggest a solid coat of flat olive (or gray or tan) with some military accessories like lettering, spare tires, blackout headlights, jerry cans, knobby tires, etc - to make sure your intent is clear. If you don't do it all the way, it's going to just look lame.
Paint over all the chrome. No hub caps. Spray a star or a swastika  on the door. Strap a shovel to the roof!
Looks good:
Looks bad:
And as a final note - in my opinion - if you're going for good old USA-style camo, then do it on a baja.
Just opinions, of course. I don't claim to be an authority on military VWs by any stretch. But I know what I've seen/liked/disliked, as an observer. |

That looks cool but only because I know what it is supposed to be. If I didn't I would be thinking "WTF is that about?" |

Volksrod I own is painted to replicate the BF109 plane. So far gets a lot of attention and awards. |

what I've learned by going against the grain is that the folks on the samba will usually be hateful but the general public will rave. |
