We have done a restoration on a 75 Super Beetle, and I am having trouble with the brake light switches.
Of the two on the master cylinder, the forward one got stuck on so I disconnected it for the time being, then the rear one just got stuck on. I tried the front again and it is stuck off now.
They were brand new from Mid America Motorworks. Does anyone here have any experience with these, or can recommend higher quality switches from somewhere else?
Thanks

They are 3 prong switches, though I'm only using 2 of the prongs. Would the earlier 2 prong switches screw into a 75 master cylinder? Would be nice not to have the extra prong... |

They should be 3 prong from '70 and up. Why are you only using 2 of the prongs exactly? These switches are very hit and miss quality wise, try another vendor ie Wolfsburg West or see if you can pick up good used ones. |

I planned on replacing them, was asking about quality sellers :)
I'll try Wolfsburg.
And to answer the prong question, I have rewired the entire car with a modern harness/fusebox/etc, and the owner did not want the "SEATBELT" light and associated stuff, so I eliminated it and am just using the switches to run the lights. |

Beck/Arnley offers a replacement switch. They specialize in import parts. the number for the 3 prong is 201-1086. Beck is a re boxer. i sell parts for a living and the one i have is a VW part with this part number (113 945 515g) stamped on it. just like anything man made you'll experience part failures from time to time but overall their stuff is good quality. the 2 prong is number 201-1087 but i do not know if it will work with a 75 model year. |

there are 2 main types of switches besides 2 and 3 prong. there is tall and short also. try to find the tall ones. the short ones i have had bad luck with the last couple of years. |

I have had bad luck with Olympic (spelling may vary) switches - failing withing days. I have got good ones from CIP1 and Wolfsburg West. You may want to try someplace like NAPA as well. |

your local porsche dealer is a good source for quality non-chinese non-brazil switches. 3-prong switches are same as used on '74-'89 911. 2-prong are same as used on '73 and lower 911. they are not "similar" to what's used on the beetle - they are identical. the porsche part number for these is the same as the vw part number. yes, a genuine porsche part with a 113- part number! it's funny, but true. |

Top quality switches can be had from Anthony @ ISP West. A bit pricey, but you get what you pat for. |
