View original topic: Injection pump 1.6 on a 1.9

Im just in the middle of switching the injection pump on my 1.9td. I am installing a 1.6 pump on the 1.9 engine, question I have is about the timing belt pulleys. Do I put the 1.9 pump pulley onto the 1.6 pump? Or is there any other issue with switching out parts on the timing side of things?

the pulley has the same number of teeth, just look at the offset ,sometimes they can be different, like the ID too.

that will be temporary, right?or you modified your 1.6 TD pump and nozzles?

I`ve used the 1.6Td pulley on both AAZ and 1Z conversions. Some AAZ pulleys got integrated adjustment which makes fine tuning the pump easier.

The 1.6Td pump does a good job on an AAZ. If upgrading to a 1Z or AHU i would consider upgrading the pump as well, the 1.6Td won`t give enough pressure. It will run but underperform.

I would not use a 1.6na pump, due to the lack of an LDA.

why do I have to modify my pump and nozzles?

If you can find the end off a later pump it should work like a 1.9. The end that you put the lines on. Some are 10mm and some are 11mm and if you can find one off a cummens 4cylinder its a 12mm and should run a tdi engine. Do a search on tdm-pumps.
Also make sure your lift pump is strong (inside front of pump).

Are you using a 1.6 td vanagon pump or normal 1.6td pump? I think the normal 1.6 TD pump could actually be considered a slight upgrade over the stock 1.9 TD pump as it has a more functional LDA (adds fuel in relation to boost). The 1.6 pump has 8mm plungers, AAZ pump 9mm so depending on how it feels, EGT temps & boost you might want to increase the fueling a touch. Andrew Libby would be a good person to have weigh in here. PM him & request a consult in this thread.

BDV, the 1.6TD (and n/a) pumps all had 9mm plungers like the AAZ pumps except the 1.6ECO motors that had the 8mm plungers. The 1.6TD pump will work alright. Maybe increase the max fuel a bit.

Thanks for the info, hopefully the doka will be up in running in the next few days.

to know the size of the plunger,if it has not been modified, read the Bosch part number of the VE pump:0 460 494 304 for example:the 9 spot means the size in mm,here obviously 9mm in this part number

bye!
