Im from Albany NY, I been piecing my Vanagon back together for over 4 years now, and its worth it. I usually use many venues to acquire my parts, depends where I can find em cheapest. I dont know how many of you are from around the Upstate NY region let alone NY, but Ive heard through the grapevine for many years now that there is a VW junkyard outside of Albany maybe around the Averill park area? Im guessing its a gem if Ill i hear is word, so instead of blowing it for everyone, could just email if you do know where? Maybe its a farce! |

I'd also like to know if there is one.
As far as "blowing it for everyone", the people on this board from northeast/new england area are pretty few and far between. Most members are from the west coast. |

I'm from the Syracuse, NY area and while we have 3~4 pick-n-pull style junkyards, I don't know of any VW specific ones (friends say my yard is at times  )
you could ask the question to the (primarily upstate) NY Based Empire VW camping Club Yahoo E-new group as we have members in and around the Albany region.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Emp_VW_Camping_Club/
but I'd likey have to ask if anyone in the Albany locality could check around in the Avrill Park vicinity *hint *hint  and let us know.
though some secrets slip out while having a social around the evenings campfire.. I've not heard of this rumor..
there is a fellow with a large private stash of VWs in the woods up by Potsdam, NY.. but that is many many miles away from your area.

Hit one today in on a lead from a friend. Was in Blackstone, Mass.
Nothing worth going. All that was there was a rotted carcass from a 78 transporter, a picked over ghia and a squareback.
Have had a few car nuts looking when they go, but have found nothing yet in Eastern/central Massachusetts, Rhode Island or CT. Haven't yet tried the western part of the state yet. Summer trips I guess.
Did see a 65 cadillac, a 70 Datsun 240 and a 65 Lemans. Ahh, memories of a mispent youth. |

...I think you may be referring to my shop. I worked here for 16 years before I bought it and the past owner did have a bunch of dead vans. I am about 5 miles from Averill Park in the town of East Nassau. When I bought the shop a few years ago, I had him get rid of all the junk cars on the property I was buying. He still owns property across the street and there are a few very picked over vans there. I have a couple Vanagons for parts and many used parts put away along with lots of new parts I keep in stock. |

maybe it was dylan's house or shop 8)
I know of a few houses in the area who have amassed a collection of vanagons (there are 2 at my house now and a third coming this weekend).
these people have 20+. I don't know them personally... been meaning to stop by and introduce myself. (how does one do that? Hello. my name is Eddie and I have a vanagon problem too. will you sell me your vans?). |

Thanks for the other tips.

Well, actually...
"What have you done for me late-ly?"
Seriously though folks, speaking as a website, I'm that rare web destination for a high resolution (and browse-able!) library of original Vanagon dealer literature.
And while this isn't a salvage yard, we do harbor an ever expanding inventory of over 250 complete vehicles (and a deep seeded ambition to reintroduce the lot of them to America's highways and byways).
We're a licensed Virginia motor vehicle dealer and look forward to hearing from you. |

Don't forget the Internet. Starting with a Google search "Used VW Parts" --- then narrowing down to Vanagon, etc., I was able to procure a used Idle Stabilizer Control Unit for only $30.
The ISCU's are NLA --- and if someone has one, they're looking to be paid $3-400 minimum. Bargain for $30. |

What have I done: I keep law and order around here.
Thank you for posting scans. Nice. There are LOTS of scans on this web site, too.....
So then we need to contact you for parts? That the idea?
Are those those 250 Vanagons or generic vehicles from the masses? |

xoo00oox, did you buy the TLC VW shop/property from Terry?
I used to bring my white '69 westy there when I lived across the border in Mass.
Also bought a '91 GTI from Terry...and always thought he and all his folks were great people.
There was definitely a small VW junk yard there on site, mostly Bays and bugs though.

.......A black '91 8v GTi if I remember right. I also live across the border in MA, I think you were from Pittsfield right?
All the junk bays and bugs are gone, I did not want to own a junk yard, still have tons of old parts in storage. A lot of it is rare but useless, anyone need Quantum turbo diesel exhaust? A bunch of Rabbit carb. intake manafolds? A bunch of autostick bug oil pumps? 6 Fox heater cores? There is a lot of cool stuff too about 8 diesel fuel pumps, all kinds of latches and handles for all types of VW put away in boxes, boxes of tail lights, speedos, mk1 stuff, mk2 stuff, mk3 stuff, etc. |
