I installed the aluminum bubble wrap stuff from home depot last year. It worked out great (both noise and heat) and looks great to boot.

On my notch, the fiberglass insulation was in great shape, but the foil wasn't. I bought a small roll of foil covered foam intended to go on the wall behind a radiator. I used spray adhesive to glue the insulation to the foam and used the clips to attach everything the lid.

Four of the retainer clips that hold the insulation on the deck lid are missing. 71 Squareback. Any ideas about where to find these online? I'd like to keep this stock...I realize I can make do with other clips.

Your local "Flaps" should have something that will work. They will have a rack with all kinds of odd ball stuff. The rack at my local store is brand named "Help".

How is this foil/bubble wrap working in your car after 6 months? Is it handling the heat ok?

I found this which could be a similar gauge to the original?? $15 and enough for about 6 lids!

I am redoing mine with new insulation from the depot, but no foil, using thin aluminum with a nice polish on it

I used this trick foil on my honda since i had a turbo stuffed between the block and firewall, and they are notorious for having hot engine compartments in stock form. http://octanereport.com/tuned-cars/new-parts/2010/...treet.html Its a bit pricey but works awesome, unfortunately its only good for heat management, i'll put some sound deadening on the top of the lid. Summit Racing has tons of that kinds of stuff.

This is an old thread, but I was wondering how some of these "Home Depot" remedies are holding up after some time and heat?

The one I restored on a T34 in 2005 is still in great condition. Some of the edges that were glued over the metal trapdoor edge are coming unglued, but nothing to consider having it redone. That's six to seven years & counting ...

the thick gauge foil I was enquiring after - I just nipped into bunnings to see if they had it. Why employ 10'000 people per store if they don't know where fcking things are or what they've got? I asked the chinese kid at the front for rolls of thick gauge foil and he's directing me to 'oil'. No, FOIL. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFoil. Jesus Christ..
