Looking for anyone that has had any experience building vw trikes. I know of the trike thread on here already but was wondering if anyone here has tried one yet.I have a vw chassis and a line on a few rolling bike frames and hope to be starting it soon.Winters are long in upstate n.y. and I am getting bored.Let me know if any builders are here and if you have any pics that would be pretty neat to see what you have dreamed up! Happy new year ya'all.

My Buddy Bill and I are not so much trike builders, as rebuilders. Right now we're redoing a genuine Big Daddy Roth trike and a Coffin-style trike. The frames were bent on both and the body badly damaged n the Roth trike.

We have some build pics the we took for the owners somewhere, I'll try to find them and post them for you. Neither trike is finished, but you can get a good idea of the work involved and yet to do from the pics.

To get you started, here's a link to the Brotherhood, it's a GREAT site for home made trikes and VW trikes in particular.

Brothers of the third wheel is your best bet. I sold my last trike and missed it so much I picked up a basket case. Re-building or re-storing a trike is different than a complete new build. Most are built from kits. And the old ones are becoming more and more popular. Welcome to the club and have fun with the build.

If you check out my 4 link roadster build, that is the suspension I had built for my trike originally and am now cutting the single front suspension off and building a 4 wheel roadster instead...my rear suspension design is extremely light and very simple...probably removed about 150lbs from the VW suspension.

This might give you some ideals and good luck with your build.

I had a basket case Rupp Centaur for a while. Tandem two seat fiberglass shell.
I would have loved to do it as a project but it took up just as much room as my buggy and I ended up selling it for a good profit.
Enough to buy nice seats for my buggy. :)
