I tried Kens but wasn't really happy. Is there any other good places to get the VW worked on here in Flag? I was planning on bringing it down to Euro Works in Cottonwood, but I was hoping there was somewhere closer.

What about Andrew Libby from the samba? He lives in Flagstaff and he may do some work. Search for his name and ask him.

Talking to him now.

I'm interested as well. I'm really really close to getting on the road with a complete new motor. I need some electronic ignition help and want to meet some friends in Flag with the same interests. I'm not much of a mechanic but I can't even get it to Ken's or wherever without towing it. I could use a half hour or so of personal help in downtown Flag. 480-710-8524.

I did stop in to a shop over on the east side off route 66 on main st. I saw a ton of busses and newer veedubs across the street. Guy was cool. He told me they were changing names from or to Flag Imports. Maybe check there.

I was about at this point during the KOA High Altitude Kampout and didn't go because my boss was over that night helping me. He kinda flaked out on me after saying we were an hour from the gold.

Hey guys, sorry to bring this post back to life. 3 days ago I got my first bus. Is a 71 westfalia. Picked it up in denver and driving home to california... i had some issues last night with the generator. I'm new to the forum so i can't pm you directly tony, or any one else for that matter that could help me sort this out. I know is a holiday but any help would be appreciated.
I'm in flagstaff, az, by the way.
thanks in advance!

Manny

If it's a '71 then you'll probably get more help posting over in the Bay Window Bus forum. There is a certain degree of cross pollination, but this forum is for Vanagons and Eurovans.

In addition to posting in the Bay Window forum, if you need shop help here are a few recommendations in relatively recent topics:
Paul Curtis (928-774-6123)
Wilson's Automotive
Ken's Import Service (928-225-2752)
European Motor Company (928-214-7113)

most common generator issues are:

brushes worn out

belt slipping or rolls over - belt also drives cooling so cannot drive if belt comes off

voltage regulator points stick. A whack with the handle of a screwdriver may fix it.

Burk's Autohouse used to be really good, don't know if they are still there?...

I would say try calling Paul. I just got back into town and sorry I couldn't help.

be careful with what you have done with Paul. I had to fix to things that he had done when I lived in AZ.
