Does anyone know the "correct" sizes, or where else to order a correctly sized leather steering wheel cover for a '71 Bus with a standard steering wheel? Thanks.

I looked around for months. Ended up at GoWesty.com. They know what you'll need. The Brown was a perfect match for the CEII interior.

Thank you, I'll order one this afternoon! :D :D I knew someone on TheSamba had to know where to get one. This site is the BEST!! \:D/

They are also in the samba classifieds.

I actually bought one of these and I am very happy with it.

We got ours from GoWesty. You want to call the manufacture or e-mail them for an extra spool of thread if you are going to do a baseball stitch.

Orgasmic driving experience.

Ah. A randy Randy.

Well otherwise, driving a bus without one is like going to Disneyland and not riding the rides.

Why bother? :P

Wheelskins are the best steering wheel covers I've found to date. Recently, I reconditioned a steering wheel from a 1972 bus (same as 1971) and installed a black leather wheelskin on it. I recommend going to the wheelskin web site and looking at their size codes. Measure your wheel and find the size that fits. I just can't remember now what that size was. Then I'd do a google search for companies that sell them. You might try eBay too. It takes about an hour to install it. They cost about $40 but are well worth it.

I actually emailed wheelskins about this early this week for my 1970 bus. This was their reply
Quote:
We can make you one the measurements are 17 7/8” x 2 ¾” if you want the perforated style the cost is 59.95 + 6.95 for the shipping US. You may order from our website by using the WORD “OTHER” FOR MAKE AND MODEL AND THEN INPUT THE YEAR. THIS WILL BRING UP A PAGE TO INPUT THESE MEASURMENTS then proceed with the order.

Here's a screen shot of their size chart. If I remember right it was a size B that I purchased

Also be sure to have the "seam" located at the 6 O'clock position.

I have one installed on my Beetle's restored Koch Steering Wheel, so I know how good they look and "feel"! That's why I decided to put one on my Bus' restored Koch Steering Wheel too! :D
As nice as it is to have a beautiful restored steering wheel, the feel of the leather is much nicer. I also bought a nice "padded" steering wheel from a later Bus to try and use on my Bus before I learned that they won't fit. I was sorry that I couldn't use it since it really looks nice, and "feels" very comfortable too. I envy you Bus Owners that have one on your vehicle, it must be nice to drive those Transporters.
Thanks to all of you who responded, I can't wait to install my new WheelSkin!

I did the same thing with the newer steering wheel. Anyone want to buy a 1975 steering wheel?

thought I would show a big rig steering wheel cover. It fits like a charm, purchased at the local "Western Star" rig shop. Took two try's but ended working great. ~$10 cdn.

Sorry, but my opinion is that that cover sucks the big one. I'd rather had no cover than a piece of shit like that.

baumer99 Fri May 08, 2009 11:49 pm

Yikes, probably never used one like it. Tough call from a photo, but definitely opinionated. Stick with the no cover.

Subtlety is apparently not your strong suit. Was that really necessary?

I think many times people get confused and think that the best or most expensive is always what's needed. Often times something that is a "2" will work and function just as well as something that is a "10", ego aside that is.

The six o'clock is that with the little hand pointing at the number "6"
