Where you find one fake.......................you usually find others.

You are on a noble quest Mark; to find "The lost dealership of Atlantic."

I cant believe that is a fake, the aging on the paint, and the styling of the letters is identical to many of my frames (assuming they arent all faked as well!) That dealer must have been around somewhere!

Si.

I checked a few of my post-67 Dealers and distributors books and did not find any listings in LA on Atlantic Ave. or called Atlantic.

I checked under E as well as L.

plate frame belongs to Deuce tre' in upland. don't bother he won't sell it. last time i spoke to him he was trying to track another one to complete his pair. i don't think this frame was made in Downey like majority of them were. look at the squared off edges and skinny tabs, don't think it was made around 60's or 70's. i was born down the street, i'll ask around.

Thanks Ricky,
Do you know how long he's owned the plate?

If you look in the box you can see a couple of East LA Atlantic VW frames.

old repair shop invoice. unfortunately handwriting faded away.

58GhiaVert Thu Nov 27, 2008 8:55 pm

Ricky,
Thanks for posting the pic of the old invoice. I don't think that is from East Los Angeles VW. Looks like it came from M&M in Los Angeles.

I grew up in El Sereno. I have 4 brothers, and we all had vw's. I remember Atlantic VW, it was on Atlantic Blvd. and I believe the cross street was Wiggins St. I also remember the owner's name was John. My bro's still live in that area, I will hit them up, and I am sure more info to follow.

I have a brochure from the 48th Southern California International Auto Show from 1971 which lists all of the participating dealers. Atlantic Volkswagen, INC. was located at 472 S. Atlantic Blvd. Los Angeles, phone 266-6650.

I can provide a pdf of the import dealer listing if desired.

Chris

Welcome to The Samba Chris. Thanks for the information. The "mystery" seems about to be solved.

Thornton Tue Dec 02, 2008 1:29 pm

There is a couple Oregon dealerships that changed names quickly that seem to not exist. Because they are not on Everett's list doesnt mean they were not really there.

Be sure to send info to Everett so he can update his info here on samba
