I was driving my 70' and my sway bar broke! So, can i still drive it? why did it brake? Are the bushing clamps, a B!@cH to put on?!
Any help, would well..help. thanks

Yes you can drive it without a sway bar, many people on here drive cars with narrowed beams and drive with out a sway bar.

I would not drive with a broken sway bar. Take it off and drive without it until you put another one on, or don't put another one on. Your choice.

These will make putting a new one on much easier,

That info only applies to the Standard Beetle, not the Super Beetle, do not drive a Super Beetle without the front sway bar.

Since a "sway" bar is really an "anti-sway" bar, and you generally don't sway while driving straight, the ride shouldn't be much different, but the handleing will be.
The sway bar impoves handleing during "spirited" driving. Allows you to take corners more aggressively, WITHIN REASON.

if I was just cruisin? I can remove it? does it make it easier to lower?

Air-Cooled Head Wed Mar 12, 2008 3:33 pm

Sway bar has nothing to do w/ lowering, except it attaches to the lower torsion arm.
Some vendors sell a "lowered" sway bar. It's just curved upwards, so as not to catch a speed bump, but otherwise the same as stock. You can also by a thicker (3/4 inch, I think) version, which "supposedly" provide even more anti-sway.

You can drive w/o it. Remember, it affects handling. So if you plan on a "Fast & Furious" driving style, it's better to have it than not.

I didn't buy my beetle for speed, I bought it for looks!!! hah. If I can't go faster than 50 I'm fine with that.

what would be the point to have a high speed sway bar on a low speed VW?
