Do all fuel filters for VW's have the same micron level for filtering gas? Which fuel fuel filters work best?

I higher micron # means it's a higher filtration filter. The term micron refers to the openings that the fule passes through in the filter. A higher number, means a tighter weave so to speak.

So how does the standard plastic VW fuel filter from Israel compare to a Deutsch, WIX, and others. Is there any real difference in fuel filters besides maybe the quality of the housing itself?

They're good enough.. my guess is that it takes a piece of junk about 200 microns or more to plug something up in a carb.. but it can reduce sediment if you have a better filter. I just use what I can get in metal can form, before the pump. After the pump is no place for a filter IMO. Save the pump AND the carbs.

I agree, what type of metal filter are you using? I also don't go for having fuel filters in the engine compartment. I prefer either above the trans or up front under the gas tank.

Like I said.. whatever you can get.. Glenn has recommended some that are for industrial engine use (lawn gear I think) that probably work as well as anything.

You sure?..... A 10 micron diameter particle will be smaller than a 100 micron particle...

Micron - One thousandth of a millimeter; one millionth of a meter.

If you have a 10 micron filter it means anything smaller that 10 micron will pass through filter material.

If you have a 100 micron filter it means anything smaller than 100 microns will pass through filter material.

A really good filter is VW Diesel filter... 311-133-511c. Problem is inlet and outlet is larger than the standard 6mm file line used in type 1 application.

Yeah backwards. A 1-3 micron water filter is probably safe, a 7 and you're losing weight.

Well, I'm basing my knowledge off of air/water filtration, so it may be backwards in the fuel filter situation........weird.

The micron size is the smallest size it filters, so a 2 micron filter will stop anything 2 microns or larger from passing through while a 10 micron filter is 10 microns or larger.

I use a 1/4" metal filter that rated at 10 microns. It's application is for a Toro lawn tractor. FUEL FILTER, FITS 1/4" FUEL LINE, LP #2405002
