i'm debating on upgrading to dual carbs. is it easy to install and maintain dual kadrons. do they just bolt on? or do i need a synchronizer and dual carb know how? |

That all depends on you.
Kads are individually as simple as a stock carb. Simpler really, since Kads don't have a choke or idle solenoid.
But since there are two, yes they must be sychronized.
And they have an idle jet and a main jet and a mixture screw and and idle screw. So, although they can be bolted on and used, you will be much happier with the result if you learn how to adjust them for your engine and application.
For info on Kadrons, read up at http://www.lowbugget.com/ .

I ran Kadrons for a while, and I was happy with them, but it wasn't a quick slap-'em-on-and-run-it procedure. They bolt on, and then you work out whatever bugs pop up. It's hard to guarantee a "bolt on" solution when it comes to carburetors.
Kadrons have a reputation for being easy to set up, but it's all relative. It would be nice to have someone help you set them up, but that doesn't mean you can't do it yourself.
You don't really need a synchronizer for Kadrons. In fact, the standard synchronizers that you'll find VW parts places selling won't even fit (though they can be made to work if you put them on top of a spacer/adapter). Note that I am not saying a synchronizer is useless, just that you don't _need_ it.
The link Max points to is a good one, and there are many people on TheSamba who know about Kadrons, so there's a wealth of information at your fingertips if you run into trouble. |

In place of a synchro, we use a stehescope or a 3 foot piece of tubing. If you don't have a stethescope, the tube works like one. One end goes up to your ear and the other goes to the carb.
By simply listening, you can get them spot on with your adjustments. When they both sound the same, you're there.
We started using this meathod on the Golf race car. It has Webbers fitted and there isn't room to get the synchro between the velocity stack and the fire wall. The stethescope worked so well, we usually don't bother with the synchro any more. |

Install is easy, the setup takes a little messing w/, but i thought it was even easier than the 34-3 & way less quirky. Once mine were tuned in, i pretty much forgot about them. I love those carbs and x2 on the lowbugget website. AJ Sims is the Kadron guru and the linkage he sells is a must have. The stock linkage is really the only weakness for the kads. Good luck |
