SGKent wrote: my bus is named "the vw bus."………So, I have always lifted one eye brow when I hear people getting too endeared to their cars to give them names.
I gave mine a name so I could apologize to it when I wrecked or destroyed something on it. Learning to wrench on my only car demanded careful and thoughtful work.
Quote: Calling it Betsy would bring back really bad memories of zits and girlfriends who had to be home by 10pm or their fathers would meet us at the door. So, if you don't mind, "the VW bus" will have to do.
Home by 10pm? You must not have been driving "the vw bus!" I have not been given such fortunate time windows when the gal's parents see me pull up in what they call "that old death trip," "the tuna can," or "the rattle box." I'd hate to see what would happen if I pulled up in some of the more homely looking buses here… |

SGKent wrote: we refer to it as "the bus" however one of the wives of owners of Highlands Upholstery who did the headliner and parts of the interior refer to it as "The Guacamole Bus." It turns out that the color is pretty popular :) . Top photo is Bob D & Colin as well as myself and "The Gucamole Bus" taken while Colin was passing thru.
Sounds like your bus has more then one name  |

My first (and still have) Bus, a 1978 Westy. Named "The Bear" by the PO, I still refer to it as Bear occasionally, though my foster kids refer to it as "Bussy." One of the kids occasionally refers to it as "The Smile" because he thought the chrome bumper looked like the Bus was smiling.
The PO told me the name came when watching a movie about Roosevelt. There was a scene where TR had hunted a bear, and was admiring it after it had been mounted, in awe of its majesty. He said, "I just want to be alone with the bear." The PO would frequently drive the bus north of town to be alone by the nearby lake. I don't use the name too often really, but won't change it either.
Not the best pic, but the most current I have:
My newest Bus, a 1973 Wild Westerner. Named the "Sweet Pickle" by the PO's kids. One of my kids dubbed it "The Lime." The PO encouraged me to use the Lime moniker but it will still be referred to as the Sweet Pickle as well-more of a nickname.
