sorry if this has been covered, i don't spend much time in here.
the DuPont website has scanned their vintage paint chip library and it is available, for free, online. it is a bit complicated to get there, but here are the steps.
go to: http://www.performancecoatings.dupont.com/
click on the "Automotive Finishes" box
click on the "Color" oval tab at the top (upper right of the screen).
on the left, click the tab that says "Color Chip Library-Historical"
that will open a drop-down under it that will say "DuPont Refinish", click that.
scroll down and click on "Launch the DuPont Refinish Historical Color Chip Library"
which will lead you to the searches they offer.
you can search by certain year, but i like to drop down the "foreign vehicle" in the "Browse" section and then Volkswagen specific charts. they have charts at least back to the mid 50's. |

That is awesome hazetguy. Good looking out for the fellow sambanites. I wish it had '56 and earlier colors documented as well as it does '57 and on.
Regardless that is a nice archive. |

the dupont historical code is (202) 82962 for dulux
(181) 82962 for duco lacquer
I also found ppg / ditzler code is ( 42135)

We have a bunch of old formulas in dupont but we cannot get some of them crossed over due to the difference in the way the paint is made up. So the guys have been finding small items like gas doors, glove box doors and other odds and ends with OG paint, scanning them with the camera and then taking the time to colormatch the piece and create a formula. |
