Can you flip the diff in a auto trans?(72-80) Lookin into a full auto 914 so flipping the diff would make for the tranny to work in a mid-engine setup.

wonder if the pics in bentley could give you an insight.....sounds like a cool project. My auto has 190K original miles on it and is still going strong....pretty good units!

I have looked at the pics and the instructions say that you must make sure to install the diff on the left side....looks like you could flip it. I have never taken one apart to see so thats why I am asking....

There was some talk about mid-engine VW automatics over on shoptalkforums.com a couple years ago, but the way the builder handled it in was to flip the entire differential section over. I'm sure if flopping the ring gear were feasable, that would've been done instead.
