I know that this might be hard to do, but I'd like some help. Seeing how there were seemingly endless numbers of kit manufacturers over the years, it might be next to impossible to determine the maker. Here is my body that I got for free. It needs some work, but it's pretty good.

Now, what is it and who made it? It looks as if the tail-light area has been cut out a little in the center, but i'm not sure. I'll try and get some better pics soon. Thanks everyone.

Not a bad item to receive for free!

You'll need to provide better pictures, especially of the hood. It may also be tough to identify because of the cut out tail section. No matter what it is, its still free and thats the best kind of buggy body.

The hood looks like the Allied bodies on the DBA homepage...it just may be an Allied 20-2, but the scanned ad doesn't show enough detail to be 100% sure.

Thats a neat page! But I don't think its an Allied because the rear fenders and tail areas are different. I think the hood shape on the front edge is different as well. Thanks for the id page info!

I would bet that it is an Allied. In 1968 I ordered one from Allied and that is the same body style they were building. It seems like they were located in Iowa or Nebraska. The front fenders were rounded as opposed to the flat style of the Manx and clones and the rear had indentations approx. 8"x8" on each side where you could mount tail lights etc.I used the 62-67 VW lights mounted in the standard location. This body was as heavy and well made as the Manx and the gel coat color I ordered was orange which had an excellent finish. The windshield frame was a square steel structure instead of the rounded alum. frame that was used by most of the manufacturers. The hood and dash were one piece with the hood having the curves molded in like the one you show.I don't think they offered roll bars etc. so I ordered the roll bar that was used in the Manx.Like they said,a free buggy is a good one and if the body isn't too trashed it would be a real good starting point given the fact that is was well made.Good Luck!!

Well I looked again and it doesn't look like the grey one . I was mistaken. Heres another pic, hopefully this will be easier.
It's just hard for me to get over and look at it during the day. It is rather thick and seems to be well made. And the fenders are more flat than round.

And here's the back section. It's completely flat across the back, no molded humps, but it does look to be cut higher than it was...

I found out it's a Kellison Sandpiper SP1 and the rear has been modified from original.

According to the literature I've seen, the SP1 has a smooth hood (no ridge).
How did you determine it was a Kellison Sandpiper SP1 :?:
I'm not disagreeing with you, I was just wondering if you've seen something I haven't.

 I am 99% sure that what you have is a Glitterbug. The hood and fenders match, but I would agree that the rear end has been "modified".

Thanks for the input! I looked a many pictures and found some literature for the SP1. Here is a pic: at the bottom you can see the hood ridge.

And heres another that I found on the Dune Buggy Archives:

The Glitterbug does look really similar, but the dash doesn't quite match and the tail has the license plate box. Although mine is cut-out, I don't think it would have been high enough to remove the box. Do you know if the Glitterbug had a battery box cut-out? That would be another thing to check.
