Anyone tell me that if I put 5 lug Porsche cookie cutter wheels on a stock 68 beetle, what mods do I need to do? I have 4 lug wheels now and thinking of moving up to disc brakes. I know the advantages of discs. But should I just buy wheel adapters now and roll over to discs in the future. |

I dont know much about this, but of course I can tell you if you have a fast engine in there then discs might not be a bad idea! either that or if you live in a area where most people like to slam on their brakes when stoping then I guess its a good idea to keep up with them on braking! |

It's really not a good idea to get wheel adapters, they will not be as secure as 5 lug drums, so you're better off in the long run getting a blank set machined to the spec's you want. Also, they will mess up your clearance a wee bit (correct me anyone if i'm wrong on this) as they push your wheels out a bit as well. Cheers. |

If you are thinking about discs it would be cheaper to do it when you change to the new bolt pattern. Wheel adapters get bad reviews around here. What's the lug pattern and whats a cookie cutter? How wide are they and whats the offset? [email protected] can answer your questions as well as tires rubbing, how wide can I go etc. He's a good resource. |

So where do I find a blank set of brake drums to get them machined? |

Search that on the site. I recall seeing that very question answered within the last week. Not being catty, I don't search worth squat myself. Hate the search engine. But try bolt pattern or something like that. |

Topline - they'll drill and stud drums and rotors for any pattern you need. They make a great disk brake kit too... |

Can I take my four lug drums and then get them machined to a 5 x 130mm stud pattern or will this make the drums too weak? Also if my offset is 5in, will they rub on the fender well or fender itself? |

That WILL make the drums too weak.
CIP1 and SolCal VWs both sell drums and discs that are drilled for the narrow-5 Porsche pattern that the cookie-cutters take.

But will they rub anywhere? |

Don't know the answer to the offset question. What is the width of the cookie cutter wheel? |

They are 7 inches wide and the offset is 5in. I have been looking all over and the best price for dums i can find is $80. Any other good ideas from anybody |

On my 71 'vert I have 6" cookie cutters on the front with 195/50/15's, and 7" rims on the rear with 215/60/15 tires. It's a tight squeeze if I was to lower it in the back, but the 205/60/15's on the 7" rim tucked nice with no rub. (unless you put a LOT of weight in the back seat!) |
