I'm heading to southern california in a couple weeks. I will have a few days off and want to kill some time by hitting some off road shops. I have to pick up my shocks from Kartek, so going there is a definate. Any other places of interest in the Fontana area? Any dedicated volkswagen junkyards? Museums? Karl's in phoenix and a small shop near my house are all I have ever been to.

It always works that way. I have missed probably 10 shows or meets around the country by a weekend.

I could have ridden the rollercoaster at Buffalo Bill's while I was there too :D

since you will be in the fontana area stop by unique supply in redlands (just off the 10 at tennesse.

it just so happens i work there. we have a good assortment of everything there. i am trying not to make this a plug for the place.

There's a junkyard in Fontana, I believe its still there, called
Aceys VW Salvage. The prices are kinda high if I remember
right, but if it's still there he did have some crazy looking
stuff in the backyard.

There's also CarCraft right off the Riverside freeway in
Riverside..Mostly new parts & such.

Last time I was at Aceys, it was a HUGE waste of time. Used to be owned by a grumpy old white guy. He was grumpy but at least fair and willing to work a deal. He is no longer there and the new owner, manager whatever is a joke. If you dont drop CASH and lots of it on the counter, he wont show you anything.

As an example, I was interested in a body panel for my car. He said he had it, but wouldnt even bring it up front to inspect until I gave him 50% of the agreed value in cash. I know the dick head would've kept my money if the part wasnt in acceptable shape. Im sure he fucks over lots of people that way. I told him to fuck off and laughed all the way out the door. I think I also wished him bad luck in business. I hope the jerk goes out of biz. I dont see how he cant conducting business like that.

In short, dont waste your time at Aceys.

I suppose things have changed. The last time I was there
was back in Dec of 94, and a young guy was there. He
too had something up his 6, but did work with me on a
couple things. Since I was in Rialto, it was close by and
I went for it. Sounds like it's change for the worse.

A SoCal boneyard run’s gotta hit Duarte’s Alpha St., especially Russ’s VW Recycling:

Thanks for all the replies. I'm actually looking forward to spending some time checking things out.

I'm also adding some seats to my list of parts to find out there. Is there any place that would actually stock PRP or corbeau seats etc out that way? Shipping cost have been stopping me from buying the seats mail order, and I have an almost empty trailer coming back east.

Nicksan Mon Aug 22, 2005 6:51 pm

Moore parts and Pacific customs are the two big bug/off road suppliers here in so cal but they are in corona and anaheim, kinda far from riverside. I know moore has PRP seats.

Dannyrandomstate Mon Aug 22, 2005 7:13 pm

Hey Jowlz swing by Unique supply we have the PRP's and might have anything else ya need.

HamburgerBrad Mon Aug 22, 2005 8:48 pm

corona's not that far from riverside. just a few miles down the 91. oh wait, 2 miles, at an average of 2 miles per hour on CA-91....
