Toy Review: Herbie Fully Loaded - Radio Controlled
For all you kids & kids at heart... I just wanted to offer a much lighter post and praise a great toy I recently found at your local Wal-Mart Supercenter for $22.00. It's a radio control fully functional 1:18 scale real working headlights and taillights Herbie. Use 4 AA Batteries in Vehicle ( Not included) And 6AA batteries in Controller ( Not included)
After buying the necessary 10 AA batteries (the only negative), my young son and I took the car and remote out of the packaging with the normal amount of bothersome twist ties. We then installed the necessary batteries with a screw driver and found a very flat concrete surface to drive our new toy on.
Upon inital runs we quickly found out the car is a blast! It's very fast ( faster than a lean 5 year old sprinter) and has the ability to do 360's, 180's with a little practice and responds very well to the remote. I've so far run the car at least up to 30 feet away from the remote with no trouble (that was the room width).
So if you are looking for a great present for a special youngster (recommended for 8+ on the box) that you could follow up with great set of "G" rated family friendly videos.. this is it.

I bought the larger (almost 2' long each) and more expensive ($100/ea.), Herbie RC cars. Although I modified mine ride a little lower when the "hydraulics" are let out. Both cars have "hydros", so they canrock side to side or front to back. Sweet feature. I think are an awesome deal and tons of fun.
The bug did come with the 53 decals, but I removed them so it would match my car.

I bought both of those with the exception of the 1/6th bus. Cause frankly, it's a little TOO big and I don't really have any place to put it with the Herbie, and the 1/6th new beetle that I have. They are a blast. |

From what I've seen Walmart is he exclusive carrier of these toys. Call before you go, cause they are a bit hard to get. |

I couldn't be satisfied with just one I had to buy the bus and the car. 1:6 scale. I found bad herbie the black one in 1:18 scale but I didn't get it. I just might have to go back. |

Yeah, got bit myself, bought all three of the smaller rc's and 1 green and white large rc bus, 2 orange and white large buses, and 2 large rc herbies. Gonna rat one of the buses, and one of the large herbies, do one like what I want, and leave the rest for display in the toy room. |

for anyone that bought a 1/18th scale that runs off 10AA batteries, about how long of a time do you get before they start to drain?
i also noticed that the 1/18 scale is real light, it gets airborne over cracks in the side walk. |

My 3 year old son will play with his 1;18 bus for over 1 hour before it starts to slow down real bad. I suggest rechargeable batteries. |

My wife bought me the 1:6 Herbie the other day. I get about 45 minutes to an hour out of one charge if I don't play with the "hydros". Mine is going to be satin black with red wheels to match my bug soon. It's already pretty scratched up from the kids playing with it. I may go get the bus tomorrow. |

I have been trying to find the 1:6 so I can cut the top off and turn it into my vert. Black with a teal interior. |

I had my RC bus painted to match my '62 deluxe. My painter had some left over materials from when he painted my bus. He sprayed 2 coats of Diamont base coat and 3 coats of Glasurit clear coat. I put in some vinyl windows and skylights to complete the look.
What do you think? This is what happens when I get bored.

I posted this in the Split Bus forum, for anyone near San Jose California, I bought the 1:6 bus at a local walmart for clearance $40, yes you see that right $60's off the regular price. They had 1 more, which I have contemplated just going and buying, crap at that price I would have two for what most of you paid for one. Worst case scenario, I sell it to a fellow split lover, or two kids - two buses!!!!!!!
Down side, I made a deal with my wife that we hold onto it until xmas as a present for the tykes  , Although as we get closer I would like to get it out of the box and hook it up like our 67!!! or at the very least make it look different than the norm, Some of these paint jobs and customizing I have seen are great. Anyone else seen the double cab in the Split bus forum? |
